I am confused by this guitar. I have tried to find info on it but cannot. From what I have found so far, the Custom Shop Clapton Strat was not made in this odd color. Also, it doesn't have an EC Signature anywhere on it. Can someone more knowledge than me please try to give me more info on it? If I remember correctly the person I bought it from said its one of about 200, but from what I've read that doesn't make any sense. Thank you for your help!

[quote="calivintage"]I am confused by this guitar.

Well, it certainly isn't a gold leaf series guitar, but is of the Lace Sensor period, and predates the current Custom Shop Signature Series guitars whose headstocks bear the Clapton signature on the back. Masterbuilt Claptons are not signed with other than the builder's mark. What is on the back of the headstock?

There are enough of us in the Clapton groove that I expect you will have more feedback in short order. Meanwhile, if you have A LOT of time on your hands, do search Eric Clapton Stratocaster in the thread history. We have been very busy with this guitar these past 12 months.

Yes it is Aztech Gold, A color not offered for Custom Clapton Strats i believe. ANd yes, older Custom Clapton Strats had the Lace pickups. It also has the Mid Boost.

The back of the headstock just says Fender Custom Shop. Can I contact the Custom Shop and give them the serial? Could they possible get the history from that? I don't know how to contact the Custom Shop though, I've tried. I hope I didnt get an unauthentic one, meaning someone ordered their own Custom Shop strat and made it LIKE the actual Custom Shop Clapton Strat, but then I suppose my COA wouldn't say that, unless i got fooled.

You can email Fender at consumerrelations@fender.com. Tell them that you have a Clapton Stratocaster, describe finish, pickups, and hardware, give serial number and date of COA. The signatory, Mike Eldred is still the CS Manager. This guitar is likely not Masterbuilt, but rather Teambuilt, and the artist's signature may have been left off at the request of the original purchaser, or at the direction of the CS due to the alternate color of the finish and the hardware.

Keep us up to date on your findings.

Simply because the colour was not one of the "official "EC colours at that time, it might not have an EC sig; but the COA prevails should it match with the guitar serial number.
