I have a Beck strat, and noticed the custom shop features apparently the exact same guitar with a hard case and signature in a different location for about $1,000 more. Why? Is there some special feature in the signature series I'm missing?

Signature Series guitars are Custom Shop. Artist are factory production line. Different attention to details, and perhaps better selection of woods.

Would agree with that but I will be damned if i can tell the difference between the Clpaton artist and signature, sound wise

interesting that this came up - over the last few weeks i had just tested some artist series claptons and signatures. i dont know if it was pickup height or the theory about thinner finishes and quality of wood but there was a big difference in the sound of the two guitars to me. the CS version was much more 'open' sounding with a lot more ringing and chiming.

could just have been these 3 guitars in particular (2 artist, 1 CS) but across these 3 there were differences that surprised me.

Well....here's the question again....did all the guitars have a TBX pot or just the Artist guitars? The Masterbuilts don't. There's always been this nagging question about the difference between the specs description on the Signature Series and what's in the flesh.

The Custom Shop and the Artist have very similar spc's and as far as I can remember both have TBX.

The Artist comes with a godawful strap tho !! Somebody must be colour blind at Fender if they think it compliments Blackie

Well the good side is that if someone don't see or feel any difference it's better to buy the "cheapest" so to save money or other gear
