I've got a bunch of custom shop guitars, mostly from the 90's, that were produced as part of numbered runs, i.e 2 of 12, 60 of 100, 1 of 6. They are all marked on the back of the head with the number and listed on the certificate. I haven't seen many like this lately. Can anyone tell me if the custom shop still does limited numbered runs and if not, why? Thanks..

I have a Custom Shop 70's Jazz, and it doesn't have any "1 out of 100 "numbering system on the certificate, which is kind of disappionting. It's supposed to be a limited run of 100....I have no way of knowing where mine is out of the 100 made. :?

We sometimes do the "1 of, 2 of, " thing, but we tend to stay away from it...for precisely the reason you are asking.

If I get 1 of 100, and you get 67 of 100, who's guitar has more "perceived value"?

If we do numbered runs, we usually hold back the first 10 or so. Those go to the families of the subject, or VIP's.

This is a timely thread for me! I have a CS tele that I want to find out some info on (wood, neck shape, etc.), but its an 'x of x' serial number so its not easily tracked down. I do know the month and year it was built, though. Does anybody know how I can get in touch with someone at the Custom Shop who might be able to pull the specs on this guitar? It seems when I've tried this in the past, it was not an easy task...BTW I think Mike is the guy who signed my Tele's certificate, if im not mistaken...

anyway, thanks!
