The Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster came with SCN pick ups and 250 K pots from the factory. I never found those pick ups to be dull or thin sounding. The factory stock pick ups do have a purer bell like tone but the SCN's can sound quite good. I have had so many Fender guitars over 40 years. I did find the Fender Gold Lace Sensors thin sounding while the Silver Lace had more warmth and fullness then the Blue did sound dull and lower middy with the Red Lace even more so. The Fender Noiseless pick ups in the original American Deluxe series I found to be way too bright and biting because they came with 1 Meg pots and a Meg bypass resistor even when they where bought as a pick up set. I tried the newest Fender N3 Alnico pick ups in the 2010 Fender American Deluxe and they seem to sound pretty good and more like a true single coil. As for noise, I find the stacked single type noise cancelling pick ups for me are quieter than most humbuckers. Proper wiring is very important as in using good shielding paint in the control cavity and shielding foil on the pick guard with a central star grounding point. When using high gain overdrive or distortion there is always going to be some buzz or hum depending on the wiring in the building your are in. I Meg pots Have too much of a volume and treble drop off with even a slight back off of volume so I wouldn't ever use them with any pick up. The Seymour Duncan classic and Hot stack pick ups being vertical humbuckers have the best sound with high end openess and sparkle with 500k pots instead of 250k pots. The traditional Kinman pick ups are very good. For the ultimate try the Suhr Fletcher-Landau pick ups with the back plate hum canceller system.
