What are the requirements for, say someone like Greg Fessler or John Cruz, current Master Builders, to become Senior MBs like Mark Kendrick or
Yuriy Shishkov?

Is it seniority or are there certain achievements to be met?

I think that's an in-house policy from Fender.

Just notice that younger Masterbuilders can may turn Senior Masterbuilders before older ones.

I *have* noticed that, but not sure if they've been there longer or have to meet a certain criteria/status/quality/craftsmanship?

Isn't Yuri Shishkov a master builder. He went to fender from washburn, which was his first job when he landed in the states.

The link below indicates that Yuriy is a Senior Masterbuilder.

I was hoping that someone 'in-the-know' from FMIC would comment. :?:

There was an article in a uk magazine about Yuri Shishkov ages ago. When he first built the relic tele with the bigsby on it. That guys story is amazing. Whilst in the eastern block he worked in a damp basement so small he had to open the door to fit necks. He copied bodyshapes from a guitar magazine smuggled into the ukraine and made a clapton replica but its headstock was wrong because the magazine didnt show it. He made pickups from fridge door magnets too. When he got to america he worked for washburn on QC and landed the job although he couldnt speak english. He started pointing out improvements that could be made to their guitars, by drawing sketch's of improvements. Then he started working for washburns customshop even though he still couldnt speak english.

What a bloke eh. I'd certainly buy him a pint.

Does anyone know what happened to Art Esparza? I looked at the FCS link and he wasn't listed as a builder.

He was there from the begining - I had #4084 (#84 of ???) of the 50th Anniversary 54 built by him. I know he never developed the 'name' that others have, but he was one of the 1st Senior Master Builders...just curious. :?:

If they don't show on the list , they are gone, as simple as that; this happened to several of them, Big Names, Hamel, Stuart, Page, Suhr, Black, Baker, all gone for different futures...
But for John English ..R.I.P.

just heard from Cal ,he said that it is a advancement based on skill and talent, most like Art Esparsa worked there way up. Art started in 88 with Cal and they used to carpool 8 years ago Art went in for knee surgery and nobody has seen him since.fender recognizes talent and if a MB from another manufacturer came in they would honor his level, but the chain gos appretice ,master, senior.hope this helps
