That's classic Berry for you, according to the grapevine. 'Nuf said on the matter. His contribution to rock music is that of a pillar. Nobody gets by without the backbeat he developed. Unfortunate for his lacklustre personality. Not everyone is a Gilmour.

Agreed.
I loved his music, I grew up listening to all of his records. Hence my purchase of my 355 in '65 (mine didn't burn and I'm still have it :D )
He "performed" lately in France, it was pathetic, what a pity....

No, it's a repro of the one he brought from Sweden and called "PLAY LOUD"

Okay. I just remembered that Duck had a sticker of Donald Duck on the headstock. Other than that, I get Yngwie's "antique white" Strats all mixed up.

You and I being of similar vintage obviously had similar influences. Berry and Holly were two of mine.

For those who may not know, Berry's modus operandi was to travel light, with only his guitar.(This is documented in the film 'Hail, Hail Rock and Roll', but common knowledge to those in the 'bizznizz'. ). The promoter for the gig he was doing was responsible for arranging for the backup musicians. They needed to know his entire catalog cold, and be versatile and knowledgeable enough to 'go with it' on anything that might come to mind on stage. There were no rehearsals. I've never had the pleasure, but knew people who did. f this is a circumstance under which you lost your gear, it is fully understandable, and regrettable.

Berry's best guitar playing is in the studio. His riffs are classic, but were never reproduced live on stage, ever, in my memory of his live performances. I guess he just didn't care. Too busy 'duckwalking'. Technical ability with a guitar came later, as the guitar heroes emerged.

Gotta give him credit though, he took blues, boogie woogie, and an Elmore James riff and became, IMHO, the real king of rock and roll. I didn't need John Lennon's observations for that one. I realized it long before.

I think it was in the springsteen autobiography 'glory days' where he told a story of he and the Estreet band being berry's backing band. No setlist, berry's guitar untuned every night. No two sets the same and the most they ever got as a clue as to the song was a, 1234 or 4 stamps of the cuban heel.

Had I been Keith Richards, no amount of hero worship would have been worth that abuse...and on film yet!

The amazing thing is that Berry played that bend more than once and Keith still could not get it, as fine and creative a player as that man is. Why??...Been playing it wrong all those years. There's a difference between interpreting the feel of an artist's signature riffs and playing the dimed copy. He too, is technically more perfect in the studio than live. :?

Dave Edmonds.....now there's the man 8)

Still the fact remains, Whether you be clapton, richards or little old me.
Berry is the man. When berry had his last hit i was 4, my inauguration was down to my dads endless playing of berry tunes on long car journeys. Love him or hate him, his songs are timeless.

Malmsteen Tribute Strat: Is it one too many?

No. It's about 5 or 6 too many, but I give up. Doc's Tribute Strat is coming out in 2014, and mine is slated for the following year. Both are
" must have " models. Please buy lots when that time comes, and rave on endlessly about mine for sure. No reasons why...just please do!

Whether I had played every Tribute guitar out there or not had very little bearing on my opinion that there's too many Tribute guitars. I've played many of them, and even done setups for more. So far, the only one Imight have plunked down real dollars for was that 2004 Anniversary. Sold for only about 5G, and was hands down the nicest one I 'd had in my hands for many many years. Maybe that one was a fluke, who knows?

Any truth to the rumors around here that Custom Shop is doing an "Alain 'Paris'" Tribute in 2011? I hear it's supposed to be awesome, but that the bridge pickup has a bit of an accent! :)

There certainly are a lot of Yngwie models (counting the MIJ ones too).

I'm quite sure that if someone wishes to have his own Tribute Strat and ready to pay for a consequent bill and buyback the whole Series, the Custom Shop would be more than happy to do so.

Alas I'm a small potatoe playingwise and there would be no interest in doing so.
I just rely on the taste of famous players, trying to determine what brought them into playing such a guitar and thereafter having my own (varying) shortlist of such species within the ones at my disposal.
