Thanks for clarifying that for me Doc . I thought you might have been second guessing your decision. I do love my Gilmour and I never owned a Clapton, got close to it one time. I'm not as fortunate as Alain!

" I'm not as fortunate as Alain! "
I'm retired , my sons are grown up, I don't take from the family expenses pocket to fill the Fender CS one.
Well in a way you are right I'm still "fortunate".
Nothing as an advice of investment , but a Fender CS Muddy Waters Tribute Tele bought some years ago , you've enjoyed it , played it and it stilll be there, ready to respond to your slightest desire. What about stock shares bought at the same time, you just look at your investment bank account balance and you cry while drinking a whisky.
As we say in France : "Don't put all your eggs in the same basket"

You are so right Alain! At this point you are a lot better off with your pension plan than people planning on the stock market to pull them through their golden years! What about people like me? State retirees!! :? I think it was Doc or maybe Ceri that told me Chuck Berry has bought a new Gibson 335 and a new Cadillac every year for the past 40 years and stored them as his pension plan!! 8)

Chuck Berry ...
What a greedy man
Once on tour in France he borrowed my Ampeg amp to perform (he never brought any musician nor any equipment but his Gibson 355, costwise),
he destroyed my amp while playing on stage and never agreed to compensate me for such incident )
When his house burnt and he lost his most famous guitars in the fire, which he did not insured ,costwise, let me tell you I didn't worried but I smiled...I happily smiled.

That's horrible! How would I know as I would never bring up bad memories for you!! That's an amazing story! I was just agreeing with you on the value of collecting great guitars versus putting money in the stock market. Alain, I sure would like to meet you because you have meet and been around a lot of famous people. You know everyone in the business of building and playing guitars. What a wonderful and full life you have lead my friend!! That's why I put my stock in your opinions and advice! 8) Rock on my brother from France! :!:

My Clapton acquisition was a very lucky happenstance. Ebay at the right place and the right time. Not more than the current store price of an Artist series guitar, but 20 years old and in mint condition. The same feel as the Gilmour but the neck just a tad more tapered. Practically brothers.
If my CS guitar has felt as good I never would have gotten out of it.

Hey Gratz, I just got a call from my dealer and he told me that he just received the new GP mag with Gilmour on the cover. He wanted to know if I wanted him to send it to me (free) of course I said yes. I told him to look at the article on Fender U. and that there were some of my friends in the picture. Bragging a little bit! He is going to make me a pedal board for Christmas , so I need to bring him my stomp boxes. You guys are world wide man!! 8)
Alain is one of a kind! I guess I should quit rambling on so I'll catch ya'll later! :)

So your saying that had the Clapton neck had felt as good as the Gilmour you would have kept it?? :? Regardless of the electronics!?

[quote="fhopkins"][quote="zzdoc"][quote="fhopkins"]:

Had I had the benefit of Alain's experience when I was ordering the CS guitar, I would have been more sophisticated in what to ask for in the neck. The rosewood board lent thickness to the neck which was not compensated for in the carve on the back. Hence it had a 'chunkier' feel that either my '97 or this '89 (which is definitely closer to the feel of the Gilmour with just a slight hint of a V fullness). They are nothing like the soft V's on the American Deluxes, for example, which is what I bet they used on my CS.(Remember, the guitar was done as a '65 NOS and the first neck they fitted to it was for that vintage, and was rejected.) I also specified a satin finish in a vintage tint which I was told could be done but wasn't. The neck had a tad more 'drag' to it than the Gilmour, which is not satin finished. All the other elements of the guitar were excellent. Some lucky player out there is going to acquire this guitar and love it, I have no doubt. I'm just happier with what I have on the table now.

This happened when I was still young in the late '60s. But my relation with the showbizz is rather tenuous in fact.

Life called me far away from music for a long time and although my active life was full and, in a certain way unique, it was not that wonderful at some moments, but all in, an exciting dream for an adventurous mind as I spent more time traveling around the world than being at home. But as far as I know we just live once
