Hey Paul,
We had a great holiday. I hope you did as well. Let me clarify something so I don't offend anyone. I placed the guitar in a glass case but I can pull it out anytime and play it. We will also be at NAMM. I'll be there with Erik Turner of Warrant and of course Renee. I'll have to show you some pictures of some real sick Masterbuilts that I got. Keep in touch.
Take care,
Mike

Well after a lengthy thought and hard discussions with a European Dealer much more comprehensive than his USA colleagues, I gave up:

Well one can change his mind, when a nice(very nice) discount is proposed and the relicing is the best I've ever seen.
I must say that the Fender Custom Shop relicing process -under John Cruz supervision ?_is light years ahead from what we had some years ago (specially in smoothness between layers which was the weak point before).
Scalloped neck ?
Well it's hand made like on the original so it's playable by any average player (just like me)
Yes I can hear: why pay so much for such a battered guitar ???
"Scars of Fury"

i just want to add that some describe the relic process as paying extra for someone to beat up a guitar .ive found that the approch to this process to be painstakingly percise and executed with the hand of a master craftsmen, for that i see the beauty and skill it takes to reproduce these guitars

wow. that´s really a fine piece. thank you for sharing the photos.

that "scratch" on the front of the headstock is very similar to those necks with broken headstocks...hopefully cosmetics only on yours. :-)

the body finish is breathtaking.

This was done purposely to reproduced the repaired broken headstock of YM's one.
On the photo of the back of the headstock you can see the wood pegs used for repair !!!

In fact that's what triggered me into getting one as I'm not a fervent admirer of YM.

:

...likely why the Gilmour came in at such a reasonable price.
a. finish wise it was not that severely damaged
b. they offered an NOS version; would have been great if they had done
that with the Tribute 'Blackie'. Would have made a certain contributor
a very happy camper, given all the questions he's asked these past
2-3 weeks.

You know that David Gilmour insisted on releasing two guitars, the price of which may be considered reasonable so as many as possible people could afford it without any detriment to the quality.
That was a first with Fender let's hope it's not a one-off
I'm still working to find a reasonably priced pile of pedals to get that DG sound at home...

I have not heard a review of his Gilmour from Doc yet. He is always talking Claptonese!
Sorry to veer from your OG post Alain!

In response to both you and 'Hop', we've been dealing with this on so many threads that likely my commentaries have been lost in the morass which often the case around here.

You echo my cudos to DG with respect to the conditions he set prior to embarking on this project. It is both to his credit and our benefit that I doff my cap.

There isn't anyone who has expressed an opinion about the outcome of this project with respect to the final product who doesn't second my opinion of this guitar. With it, my Clapton, and my LP, I am well satisfied.

Doc
