Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Andy Summers, Muddy Waters... These outstanding players are recognized worldwide as guitar icons.

The EVH Frankenstrat is still looking for a customers niche. The ones who could afford it might not be potential Customers and die-hard fans were not in a financial position to buy one.

Now the YM, just facing the same marketing problem. Is YM a real guitar icon with his Ferraris, Rolex , and gold hardware showing all the time, I doubt.

A limited 100 units Edition ? Even if not limited I'm not sure it would sell so many.
Maybe Fender tried to reach too far..
I could buy one of course but what for ???
I do enjoy my new Unlimited Edition David Gilmour Strat . It's a great player.
This is what Customers are looking for.

Yes. The hottest "clone" guitars have been done, I think. I´d rather see (and buy) some ltd cs versions of older catalogue models like Starcaster, Musicmaster, Marauder or even the "wildwood" series.

Notwithstanding what I said hereabove, John Cruz has done a relicing nothing but stunning for this YM Strat,in the same way as for the SRV #1, of which he was also in charge.
IMHO, he is presently the #1 Masterbuilder for relicing (but he is also great for the rest)

Another point might the acceptance of the large headstock. It´s surely a great guitar - I really would like to have one - but also a good test for Fender and their CS 70´s reissues.

You are right FMIC , same; I'm not really mad about those large headstocks; I can stand them on Jaguars & Jazzmasters but on Strats??

But in the impredictable event of a Jimi Hendrix Woodstock Tribute Strat may surface ( not in my expectation of life as far as I know -and I know-) then I might indulge myself with such headstock..

I think that guitar is at the EMP on display in Seattle along with the "Brownie", each in its respective location. If Paul Allen hasn't let Fender have at it with the 'Brownie' at this juncture, it is unlikely that we are going to see the Hendrix. There's no gain from a standpoint of historical perspective for Paul to have those guitars replicated. They serve musical history and the public interest best, preserved in a museum for their uniqueness.

What's your take on it.

Do we really need another hendrix guitar? My personal opinion is no. From what i remember of the mid 90's the woodstock didnt do too well which led to the voodoo strat being released which also flopped. Upside down strats will always be so firmly associated with hendrix that you couldn't play one live for anything but hendrix covers. Even then the player looks strange. As a collectors piece, well i dont know thats a world away from me.
As for the malmsteen strat. As much as i admire the guy and his loyalty to fmic, one is enough. His tone is negligible he relies strictly on technique. No luthier in the world can put that into a guitar for you.

What's your take on it.[/quote]
That's might not be the actual problem.
Paul Allen owns one of the three replicas (another one for the Fender Museum, the other for the Jimi Hendrix Estate), the original being still with the Jimi Hendrix Estate
It seems that the Jimi Hendrix Estate might be so greedy that it may go beyond the limit fixed by another very powerful endorsee of Fender within his contract about other endorsees royalties limitations.
FMIC (the Company) please correct me if I'm wrong

Hoya!

Well, although I am not a fan of the Swedish Shredder, I think he deserves a CS model. After all, he is in a league of his own, even if this league verges on the wankfest ;-)

Now, the problem is: there are so many great guitarists who played iconic Fenders that we may wonder why did Fender choose to re-create a guitar played by someone like him. Let me explain...

True, he is WAY better a guitar player than I am, but is he that popular? His heyday is clearly behind him and, to be honest, is his axe that famous? Since Hendrix was the best advertisement Fender ever had, why aren't they offering a regular Hendrix-Tribute guitar (an AFORDABLE one, a nice Custom Shop Designed MIM model, for instance), instead of Yngwie's axe which, to be honest, I've never heard about before???

Well, I know some people like shred but this is not an attack towards them, it is more a thought on "which guitar is the most famous one" :-)

Be funky
