I don't follow you; here are the specs of the DG Strat from Fender website:

5-Position Blade:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup
Position 2. Bridge and Middle Pickup
Position 3. Middle Pickup
Position 4. Middle and Neck Pickup
Position 5. Neck Pickup

1 Mini-Toggle (Adds Neck Pickup in Positions 1, 2 and 3.)

:?:

Precisely: I recognized that. I've emailed Brad separately on this. (It's faster.) I (and others I expect) have always started counting from the neck pickup as position 1. So my curiosity is piqued as to why it is reversed on this guitar.

Indeed; it has always been like that on any Fender guitar.

possition 1 (pointing to the jackplate) being the bridge is the way i used to think of my selector. I found out here that its possition 5 thats the bridge. Still pointing to the jackplate just the number has changed.

My esteemed colleagues correct my more than 50 years impression and submit evidenced based findings supporting their contention that the bridge pickup according to Fender is pos 1.

Wow this is confusing :? :? :?

Ive always thought that position 5 would be the lowest (nearest the bridge) but I always realised that was the bridge pick up position.

And Doc can you give me some thoughts on your Clapton.
i'm looking to buy next couple of days and would be inbterested in your views.

My guitars are for playing not for show, and I don't like making thibgs difficult with hard to play guitars - I can do that with my own ineptitude :D :D :D

Congrats on the new axe, Doc.

Best wishes in getting the "details" of the COA straightened out.

Of course a pic would be nice :!:  :) 8)

My take, for the past 50 years, from the days of the three position switch was that the neck was pos 1. However, I have been shown otherwise.

And Doc can you give me some thoughts on your Clapton.
>My '89, with the Lace Sensors, is an extremely versatile and easy to play instrument. You should find the thread that StratoKaster wrote on his custom shop guitars. There's a general feeling that if you can find a really clean vintage Clapton.."88/'89 it's a better choice than the new guitars. I find it and the new Gilmour to be in the same league.

If I may intrude on this for a moment: I was always in doubt over the numbering of the switch positions. The Doc's method makes sense to me, in as much as suggesting a journey from warm neck tones to bright, lead sounds at the bridge. 1 to 5: sort of escalating tone!

But I noticed that when I bought an American Series Strat in 2005 various bits of the paperwork contradicted each other as to which position was number one. So I looked at the specs sheet, wiring diagram and such on this website - and found that those all contradicted each other too!

From that point on I gave up and now always refer to "neck+middle", rather than either position two or four.

A small frustration, but tiresome nevertheless...

Anyway. Back to your business, gentlemen.

Cheers - C

I remember playing a 3-position switch and getting the in-between notched position and thought it sounded great...then Fender made it too easy to do. :? At any rate, for what it's worth, I just call the positions what they are.[ i.e. neck/bridge, etc. ]
