Thanks, RobQ.

That verifies one piece of my (admittedly fading) memory that at least the last time I saw him play he was playing a Fender and not a Squier.

Nothing in your post seems too out of line for what Fender could do with Custom Shop Artist Series or Signature model IMHO....

Jeff told me the people at Fender told him they thought he was nuts to think that there would be a market for a guitar with electronics that complex.

He thought it was a great design and thought THEY were nuts for not producing it. He felt very strongly about this. (Actually...if you knew Jeff...he felt strongly about most things...)

BTW, every Squier Jeff ever owned to my knowledge was a japanese-made guitar. At the time when he made his mark, Jeff firmly believed that fender Japan was producing better made, more consistent instruments than Fender USA. The early japanese Squiers were very well-made instruments.

That's too complex - And then they put out models with the S-1 switching system, tbx, and the Gilmour with its special electronics...

Seems to me that switch nuts like nikininja would love it...

Ah, hell, what do I know...it was just an idea...

Just don't like the idea of Fender just letting him fade away dammit!!

I'm sure Jeffs hearing was on some kind of level with superman just from the bit of playing i heard of his. The switching complexity wouldnt of been a problem to him, he would of heard right away what the guitar was set on.

Yes more switches = more desirability, atleast to me. Sounds like i'd love the Healey mod.

It's important to recognize that the configuration of this guitar met the requirements of a special needs person, of extraordinary gifts, who played his guitar in an unusually unorthodox fashion. One wonders how this would translate to the traditional approach to playing guitar.

I know of your affection for creative mods but perhaps this is one we should simply let be, and leave to its uniqueness out of deep respect.

At least we have his music as his legacy.

I'm going to agree with ZZ. Let's let this one rest. It's a unique thing that Jeff did, and the configuration was unique to what he needed. Digging away at every artist's guitar doesn't sharpen or endear any of his memories to me. The music is what counts. The hammer that was used by the head carpenter who built the Camp David cabin is not being reproduced and available at Lowe's or Home Depot.
