I got mine a couple years ago. It is my favorite bass of my five and I'm glad I splurged and bought it. I thought I deserved something for turning 40! At first I was going to replace the Fender flats with TI Jazz Flats because I thought the Fender flats have too much tension, but now I'm used to them. I really dig the big thick and chunky neck. I like the neck so much that I don't like the neck on my 2002 American Standard Precision anymore. I did change the pickup to a Seymour Duncan Antiquity II. I think this helped the tone some, but probably not enough to warrant the switch really. It still has low output.

I did have a nice '51 sunburst reissue that I liked a lot that I unfortunately sold. I wish I had it back. I had switched the pickup several times in that one. First I put in a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, which I liked the best, then I bought a Seymour Duncan Stacked Single Coil, which I thought was too dark, and then I put in a Rio Grande before I sold it.

There is another sunburst NOS '55 Custom Shop still hanging in the shop where I bought mine. It has rounds on it and I think the pickup is defective. I compared the two when I bought mine and the sunburst didn't sound anywhere near as good.

My '55 P bass sounds heavenly through my mid-60s B-15N. I gig it through a Yamaha BBT500H with two Yamaha BBT1X10 cabs. You can hear it on the first two songs on my band's myspace page at www.myspace.com/dustbowlers :D
