Cool, another I can't wait for my custom shop thread. I waited 6 months for a Time Machine and it hurts but is worth it. Personally I think that there should be a medical definition for it. Fendercustomshopitis sounds good. Now all they need is to call Merke and develop a drug to take care of Fendershopshopitis.
Seriously, there would be some major whippin if someone even messed with my Custom Shop. That's how much I like it.

[quote="walkbassman45"] Personally I think that there should be a medical definition for it.

Actually there is: "anxiety and depression disorder".

Google 'SSRI' and you'll find a constellation of pharmacological stars ready to take their place in your medicine cabinet.

The net effect is that though you might be all bent out of shape about the fact that you have to spend awesome bucks for your guitar and wait an outrageously long time to receive it.... now....you don't give a damn. :P

I understand the frustration of the people that have to pay more than 50% for a guitar that was supposed to come out 9/22/08 and DIDN'T. I myself ordered one on August 8th and was very frustrated when my dealer told me that it would take at least 4 months for them to receive it. This after 9/22 had passed and we were all very confussed about the disorganization at Fender. Apparently, according to Fender, this is the most complex guitar to manufacture (I'm guessing they are talking abot the Relic becuase the NOS can't really figure out where's the incredible work, electronics aside).
Anyway, for our writter who orederd his guitar on the first week of August, I just wanted you to know that my dealer called me today and said that it HAD ARRIVED at the store, so with a little luck yours is also on the way.
Hope this helps and even though I got mine, maybe Fender should think twice on anouncing release dates when they won't be able to meet the demand, it's highly unprofessional for such a well reputed company.

Who could imagine that all the ordered guitars were to be delivered on that Sept,22 ?
It's a first come first served process (roughly)
And just think of the other people ordering Masterbuilt guitars with waiting time up to 30 months! (I know  )
So 6 weeks is really, really nothing

I could imagine for the 500 guiatrs to be ready on 22nd take, the guitars Gibson Custom Shop has made for Jimmy Page and Slash, all of them more than 500 guitars, all of them where ready by the release date. Take the Eric Clapton Strat which where close to 300 guitars, all ready on November 24. No, no, no this was just poor planning and preparation, NO EXCUSE FENDER, you guys dropped the ball.

I live in Mexico and ordered it from GC.
Cheers guys,

Here's another interesting observation....according to the details in Taylor's lovely book, Gilmours Black Strat has a 57V neck ca 1981 or '83 (forgive me, I do not have the book at hand.)

That is not what the new guitar is proported to have. What's with that, or am I in error somewhere?? :? :?:

OK>>>>I've answered my own question: "1983 57V" for 'vintage' is apparently a 'C' shaped profile; How very Fender...... :P

From their history of using serial numbers, why am I not surprised!! : :?

It also mentions that the neck has changed like a half a dozen times over the years.

I was wondering the same thing about the pups, I have the book, Phil mentions that Dave has an SSL 1 in the bridge, but Fender has a SSL 5.

But the masses here decided that DG made the guitar to his specs, so Phil is wrong

The CS still makes me sweat, and someday she will be mine

I saw David's Black Strat when it was in Texas at the Hard Rock, and I have been trying to find the pictures I took. I think I left them at my folks house in the states. But if I find them I will post them. The Hard Rock did have David's guitar out for people to ravage, which really bugged me at the time. I could not believe it. I am glad that it is back home safe and sound.

If anyone is right it is Phil, the strat has a SSL-1 but it is custom wound by S.Duncan
and Gilmour felt that the SSL-5 sounded closer to his bridge pickup than a standard SSL-1.....
same with the other two pickups they are both original 69's (I'm not 100% sure on the year)
but i know one of the neck pickup in the CS model is a Custom 50's

anyways the what pickups that is in it is not important, it was David who picked out the P'ups that sounded closest to the original so they have to be good :)

The delay was because of my request to get a one-off, nothing to do, be it with the Dealer or my location.
I must say it was definitely worth the 36 month waiting.
Guess, I' m used to that

Did you happen to see the book? They show an invoice from 79' when Phil bought some items from SD. On the invoice they spell Gilmour, Gilmore.
But they mention to say Hi to David and that they have more items for him to try. I got a kick out of that. Great book, I think you will enjoy it as much as the CS guitar, well...maybe as much
