Scroll down to the post, "Team Build Pricing". That will give you a start.

For a Masterbuilt Guitar....$5000 would be a reasonable cost. The new Gilmour starts at $3999 MSRP but I don't know what retail is around the country for this, but that's NOT a custom order instrument.

Which is why their logo states..."When You're Ready"

If you have $5000 to spend, go for it! If not, you can get a REALLY nice guitar for a lot less.

Nothing against Fender customs or even Gibsons, I have used both, BUT

I recently got a Warmoth customized exactly how I want it, from woods, neck options, color, binding, Dimarzio PU's, Planet wave tuners, custom hardware, etc. for under $1500. The quality is incredible. It is my favorite guitar.

I have also customized cheaper Strats that sound just as good as the more expensive models- total price including upgraded PU's, hardware, etc for < $300.

Like I said, if you spend that 5 grand on a Fender, you know it will be a great guitar, but why not have 3 great guitars?

Thoughts?

Thoughts?[/quote]: There's a sensible way to go if the name on the headstock is not a consideration.

The neck for example, is licensed by Fender and, with the exception of the logo, for all intents and purposes, it IS a Fender neck.

Someday :(

I am a working professional musician. At this point, these instruments are out of my price range. Though I really appreciate the efforts of the C.S. Without the C.S. innovations and their work with artists, the Fender Roscoe Beck V basses that I love would have never come to fruition.

A decent New Old Stock custom shop will run you about $2600. If you go closet classic, it will run upwards of $2800.00.

I've also seen "indecently modified instruments". I'm not certain about the cost of those either!
