Take a look at Alain's collection and the '58 Stratocaster he calls 'Benny'. It's a dimed replica of the guitar I used to own and would look smashing as a TK 368 with 21 frets. I mean, who would know what you had on board there and, for the life of me, the one additional fret doesn't make a whole lotta difference. In fact, I like the looks of my 21 fret Gilmour because you don't need a board glued to the neck. They'll carve it out of one solid piece of what ever kind of maple you want.

Better!

see - its pics of vintage vibe sunbursts like that (and the original Brownie) that have me changing my thoughts on this aesthetic.

any idea what kind of neck that is - it looks particularly light colored with no/minimal grain.

i assume the body is ash with a nitro finish?

Well....if I take Alain to be the purist collector he seems to be, this '58 Stratocaster would have to have an alder body, a one piece maple neck, 7.5 radius with the width at the nut specific to that year (this specification has changed over time), and a soft V profile characteristic for that year. The finish would be nitrocellulose as well as the pickguard. Any additional specifics to that build would have to come from him.

This limited edition is nicknamed "Buddy" in reference to the original which "might have been supposed to be used"-not to put anybody uneased at the CS_ as a model.
Specs are as zzdoc says. One thing I'm not sure to be as it was at the end of 1958 is that the lower tone knob affects both bridge and middle pick ups, but maybe that was the case on the model...
It reflects the purity and quintessence of the Strat at that time.
Can't be better in its simplicity. You know, the one you bring on a bare island...

My '58 had a Nov neck date. Never had the body cavity open to check that. #started w/ 027...which put it in that time frame. Tone 1 controlled the neck, Tone 2 controlled the middle, the bridge was wide open. Cosmetically, your guitar is a twin. 'Uf' could do well to have it reproduced w/ a TK 368 neck carve, and the midboost circuit. Would be a unique one-off.

is there a particular reason why you opted for a '58, alain?

Early 2005 the rumor of the template of this Limited Edition Masterbuilt by Mark Kendricks being as mentioned hereabove and as BH was (and still is) one of my most favourite idols ,the tempation was of course great to buy one.
But at the same time the Fender CS was releasing the very attractive Mary Kaye Tribute Strat at the same price. So many undecided buyers opted for the Mary Kaye which had a glamourish aura (but what a great guitar BTW with its AY pups). Still I went for the '58. As a consequence this Limited Edition scarcely sold notwithstanding its inner qualities. I'm not worried about that.
Several months later I could find a Mary Kaye in Europe at a friendly price.

Buddy Holly also brought that '58 into my world. The one Fender restored was a replacement for the earlier guitar seen on the album cover of their first released LP and it's serial number puts it close in manufacture date. to the one I owned, first owned by my still friend and former bandmate.

Gary saw Holly with that guitar at NYC rock and roll show and the rest is history.

alain or stratokazter,

what does (or did) your COA state on your TK MB Clapton? I am curious if there was any type of explicit reference on the 'as built for' nature of those triplets.

thanks!

mine said "Custom Clapton Stratocaster"... as do all EC Strats from the CS.

I also have emails from TK confirming the duplication of the neck shape as he built for EC. I posted that information earlier in this thread.

GO AHEAD

If you've got:

- the willingness
- the money
- the patience (most important)

Then you'll be a happy man in sometime in the not so near future

Alain's right about "patience" - I waited at least 12 months for all three of my masterbuilt guitars! The waiting is the worst bit :?

Well
it gives you time to save for the whole amount but that might not be a real tip right now
