Hello! *first post*

Well, I'm looking for info. I'm customizing my Fender strat deluxe. I already did the pickguard, the humbuckers, the knobs, and soon the bridge.. But I'm also gonna put on another guitar neck.
What I want is the same neck, maple, but I want the fretboard to be ebony. And if possible the headstock painted black but that I can do myself.
So my question is, is it possible to order a custom neck with Fender? And where? And would it cost a lot? I could also buy one of Warmoth, but I prefer Fender over Warmoth..

Fender used to sell replacement necks but not to any special order. I don't know it they still do. You need to go to another source, like Warmoth. I knew of a vendor on the coast whose website I once found. They claim they are authorized to do everything Fender that Fender won't do. If I am able to find it again I will return to this site.

Fender will not custom make you a neck.
The only way Fender will put on a new neck on your guitar is if the original neck was defective....and under warranty.
Go to warmouth or a local luthier.

I asked in my local guitarshop for some more info. It seems Fender still makes custom necks, but they won't make me one with an ebony fingerboard! :)
But since Mighty Mite is an official customizer for Fender they will make me one! But it's gonna cost me about 260 euro! That's a lot! :) But I guess ebony doesn't come cheap..

I read about fender making a replacement neck for a guy who broke his and he had to send the guitar off to them to prove it to be a proper fender instrument etc - they even remade the decal for him.

Daren't guess how much it cost mind.

You do realize that an Ebony Fretboard will make you guitar brighter sounding?

On the subject of fretboards, what are the main tonal differences between a maple and a rosewood one?

..I think that's quite cheap considering that some most necks on WD music are about €220.......and yours is custom made and with a special f-board wood.

More on Mighty Might, please.....who, what, where, when, how?

Is Fender providing a custom replacement neck (e.g.: by year or model) or just a generic out of the replacment parts catalog?

Ok, I did some more research..

Getting a custom neck by Fender is impossible. They only replace your broken neck. Normally you even have to send them your broken neck to get a new one. And here in Europe it's possible you have to wait for a year or so. And it's damn pricy!

Mighty Mite is NOT an official dealer in custom parts! I was wrong about this. They just make products licensed by Fender. That way they don't have to pay patent rights or something I guess..
But I did e-mail a guy who replaces a lot of necks and usually replaces them with Mighty Mite. According to him a neck by Mighty Mite would even be better than my neck (MiM). The necks are great quality. You only need to take a little of the frets on the sides. They are a little too long most of the time. But this is actually something you should always do on a new neck.
Mighty Mite necks are also a lot cheaper than other necks! I'm talking about buying them on e-bay of course. I found a neck with an ebony fretboard on e-bay for approximately 90$ + (price for sending.. wtf is the word??)
And he also made me very happy by telling me a 22fretted neck will fit my guitar! I was concerned since I have a neck with only 21 frets. But it would be recommended to take a little of the overhang or something like that? I have no idea what he meant with that. To make room for p/g.. Really, no idea!
But the quality of the ebony is also amazing.

So I'm gonna order my neck as soon as possible! I'm probably gonna order some fake decals from e-bay too.. Because I still want the Fender logo on my guitar! :)

The 22 fret fingerboards extend beyond the end of a 21 fret neck by about 1/4 inch. I can't tell, by eye what additional adjustments might be required to properly fit the pickguard.

As far as your counterfeit headstock logo, Iwould not have broadcast that information. Fender does not take kindly to that kind of activity.

Historically, Fernandes once manufactured a "strat-type" guitar which dimed the American product. The only one I ever saw belonged to Carlos Santana. It was on display in a Sony exhibit in Manhattan, N.Y.C. Right down to the headstock it was a duplicate. I understand that Fender had an entire shipment of those guitars seized and the headstocks destroyed. Fernandes subsequentlly changed the shaped of the headstock. That's a trade mark issue, one of many they hold the rights to including the names "Stratocaster" and "Strat".

Sorry then! I'm not quite up-to-date about what Fender likes or dislikes.. I'd edit it but you kinda quoted me so it would still be there! ^^
I just think it would be a shame if my Fender didn't have the logo on it anymore.. :(
Thanks for the reply! I now know what p/g stands for.. Don't know how I didn't see that before.
Anywayz.. According to the guy from the e-mail he usually takes off about 1/32 or 1/16 of the overhang or something like that. I guess I'm just gonna have to see what he means when I get the neck.
I could also adjust my pickguard. Although it's a metal pickguard but I have the tools so it would be possible.

When this guitar is done it should be one serious axe.. ^^

To replace original equipment I don't see why anyone should mind. If it is any comfort, look closely at SRV's #1 on some of his videos. You may not see a logo on the headstock. There was an event which destroyed the neck on that guitar requiring its replacement. It may be that the replacment and, possibly even the original, were without same. I don"t recall if the Tribute guitar, which was done several years ago , had the logo on the headstock. Remember, a Tribute guitar is a limited run, exact copy. It is NOT an Artist series instrument.

In the other department, I have heard EC refer to as a "scratchplate, what we on this side of the pond call a pickguard.

Hope your efforts yield what you are hoping for. That, in the end, is what it's all about.

If you go to ebay you can get a good price. But, it is sometimes made in China. Very crappy chinesse wood. So, I mean you can get it here on fender, but sometimes it can be $200 bucks. Hey your decision. - Filbily :)
