Ditto!! I keep going back to "Buddy" and that soft sunburst blend. When I got my '58 back from California, the sunburst had changed. I took it for granted they had just refinished not to the original. Should have been more suspicious, but my head was in a different place back then.

I told niki when he said he was looking for a 'strat-strat' to take a good look at your '58. What pickups did they install in there for a retro sound?

I haven't received any reply from onefifteen (DG's management company), is that who you contacted Caleb? I would really appreciate any info you might have. I will keep an eye on this thread, obviously there are a few others keen to get this done too. So any help much appreciated, thanks in advance.

.

Roger that. I am really amazed at how this guitar feels like "an old friend'' already. As I've said elsewhere, everything about this strat feels more vintage than the year it is supposed to reflect. I think that neck makes the difference. It takes the guitar back 15 years from its origins. It's really more late fifties in its feel than seventies when it was born.

Doc.

the neck is based on the current neck on davids strat wich is and 1983 57 reissue neck, thats why it feels so 50'ish....

Correct....which is why I was surprised to learn that it has a C profile. However, it is but a tad different from the '89 Clapton and very much different in it's feel to my hand from the current modern C which doesn't suit me.

How does the neck compare to a modern C shaped neck?

First. the 57V is 7.5 radius, the modC is 9.5 and I think the modC has a bit more shoulder than the former.

I thought the neck was originally a 57 neck but DG had the neck custom shaped to suit what he was looking for sometime after he bought it.
And now we have a copy of his custom neck.

My dad was a drummer in the UK before we moved out here to South Africa.

He played with a lot of bands on the UK in the 60s and 70s and in fact started Barcley James Harvest with John Lees and Stuart before Mel joined them.

He actually knows the members of Pink Floyd as he used to help with the light shows when the floyd came up North of England to gig.

When he asked to get David's signature it was agreed on the basis that it didnt cause a sampede as David is really a shy person who doesnt give autogrqphs easily.

I hope that I have'nt caused a riot here - I was just very proud to get David's signature and wanted to share it with the forum members.

He certainly wasn't shy enough with respect to the guitar project. Originally thinking that the idea was 'daft', they must have made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

At the end of the day they are likely thinking unwise the way in which they limited the 'book signing'. Some dealers had these guitars in the pipeline anticipating orders so one had to be fortunate to have been sold one of those. My guitar was in DC's distribution center, meaning, they already owned it. It didn't come from Fender. Thus it became more of a lottery than it should have been. Oh well........

Thus, out of respect for the artist and for the generosity which was extended you in this instance, I would recommend to the group that we not pursue this issue further.

Simply continue to enjoy the play of this fabulous instrument.

Doc
