Did I miss something? Where does the suggested $4000 price tag come from?

DG has said that he wants the guiatar to be "reasonably priced"

I'm selling my 62 Jaguar to buy this DG Strat so pleeease let it be less than $4000 as I doubt I'll get that for my Jaguar

If this is true, I guess I'll need to start saving. The "Gilmour sound" is my favorite guitar tone without any question. Just listen to his solo on the song "The Blue" to see what I mean.

Will the DG Signature have his EMG loaded pickguard?

As far as I know, you can buy the EMG-loaded pickguard at your local music store. We have one here that's going for around $300, and all you would have to do is install them yourself on any strat you like (if you know how to re-wire your system).

There's an article featuring Phil Taylor (Gilmour's Guitar Tech) which talks about the new Fender DG Strat in the next issue of Guitar and Bass

http://www.davidgilmour.com/press/2008/ ... arch08.pdf

And Taylor is not that optimistic that it's going to happen... words like "possibly" and "maybe" keep cropping up....

I would rather pay good money for a signature guitar than a beat up tribute guitar that looks like a 5 year old had it's way with it. But hey, that's me. 8)

.......and....with the kind of bucks Fender is asking for these 'Tribute' instruments, you could order the 'Custom Shop' version of the "Artist" series of your choice and have enough left over for them to build you four more to your specifications.

I once owned a natural finish Stratocaster with a rosewood board and swapped in the EMG Gilmore Electronics. With the MOTO pickguard and the beige covers and knobs, it was a great looking AND SOUNDING instrument. Be advised that, powered this way, you have strictly a lead guitar. You cannot "roll off the tone controls" for rhythm to yield that full bottom. You get a 12DB boost circuit and an " tone expander" but if you need the capability for traditional rhythm 'comping', you'll need a second guitar.

Also bear in mind that this is an 'active' circuit powered by a 9 volt battery.
In the 'Clapton' the lower wall of the tremolo cavity has a rout which serves as a pocket for the battery to nest in. Not so with the conventional trem Strat. In my case, we removed the center spring from the trem block and sat the battery in that space. In that I do not use the tremolo with my Stratocaster, this approach worked well for me, and was also mandated by the fact that the '97 American Standard which we are talking about had that
'swimming pool' routing, so recontouring the trem cavity wall would have had the battery falling into the center of the guitar's body.

Strat bodies with more conservative routings may be amenable to pocket routing for the battery. Remember, though, it is irreversible. My approach permitted me to reinstall the stock pickup assembly, and sell both the guitar, and the DG separately when the time came.

Hope this has been of some help to ya'll out there.

Well here's my version of DG's Black Strat... not an exact copy as it's a Squier but I think it looks good....

BluesTube...

I was given the original "Jack Daniels" Squier and it had rosewood frets and white scratchplate...

I found the Squier II neck on eBay for $50 and spray painted the scratchplate black... voila :-)

It plays very, very well and as I've said before if Gilmour's Strat is going to be around $4000 it had better be good to beat this homemade one...

I've played EMG SV's in my Strat every day for over 8 years, and this is not true. Powered pickups do not make it impossible to reduce volume or drive with the volume control, and using them does not result in a "lead only" guitar (whatever that might be... something like a "lead only" piano, I guess).

Also, there is plenty of room for the battery in the standard control cavity, no extra routing or interference with the trem springs required. Mine is held in place along side the tone controls in a stock cheap-o Stew-Mac battery clip.
