I believe the black 1970 body with 57 neck etc signature gilmour guitar,
is being released on september 17th to coincide with the release of his 'remember that night' live dvd.
It will retail for $4000 (£2000) with a tribute guitar due next year.
Hope it comes with the extra pick up switch.
hope this helps.

Signature guitars are production models or custom shop versions of an instrument that an artist is either currently using in performance or has used in performance in the past which give a nod to artist. They are manufactured and finished as "new", and have the artist's signature on the guitar, usually the headstock.

They may, or may not, be exactly to spec. For example, In the case of Buddy Guy, his American-made Signature Guitar is either a blond-finsh, or sunburst which give the nod to earlier instruments which Buddy played, These guitars are equipped with Gold Lace Sensors and a 25db midboost like the generation one Clapton. The Mexican built Polka-Dot, which I own, is NOT, yet his polka dot stage guitars ARE. The rationale here was, as Fender reported, that Buddy, when the Polka-Dot was brought out, wanted the guitar at a price point a segment of his audience could rise to. However, one could have the Custom Shop build one to order in that finish, equipped with the appropriate electronics.

A tribute guitar is AN EXACT REPRODUCTION..inside and out...of a unique instrument significant to the career of a specific artist. The veteran, workhorse, stage guitars of Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Claption, Andi Summers, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, have been carefully and respectfully disassembled, photographed, measured, inventoried as to parts, wire, pickup configurations, windings, paint, damage etc. etc. etc...to the last detail...such that the final reproduction is a copy, so accurate that it is reported that Clapton, Summers, and Van Halen, have remarked that the degree of closeness to the original is incredible.

Personally, I recently had the Custom Shop build for me what I call my "heroes" guitar. It is a '57 Strat with a V-neck, finished like an SRV with a rosewood fingerboard, medium-jumbo frets, gold hardware, and all black plastic parts as my nod to Buddy. The guitar has SCN pickups as opposed to the Fender Noiseless. The block is stopped just as in the Clapton. If they don't mass produce what you want, they can build what you need, and do it well.

I've been playing Strats for nearly 50 years now, and this is one helluva guitar and as close to my beloved '58 as you can get.

Hope this is of some help.

I'm looking forward for the Gilmour signature strat. I'm really curious how it will play and sound. I hope the price won't be too high, though that wouldn't stop me from buying one, if it's really good :)

gilmourish.com really is a great website. I go there a lot as I'm a huge Gilmour/Floyd fan.

I love Gilmourish.com- I have one of their DG wallpapers as my desktop.

Is this going to be a tribute guitar? What's interesting is that if they decided to do a sig model based off its current state, it would have a 57 reissue neck and SD pickups in it.

The price points on these instruments can be generally high end, and not for the faint of heart. My personal thoughts on the matter are these: If I were going to invest a considerable amount of money in a Custom Shop Stratocaster I would rather spend some time thinking out a design which would contain all the bells and whistles I would want in a very personal instrument and have it Masterbuilt. You then, hopefully, will have a one-off unlike no other on the planet.

This is the way Guitar Center handled my order: I gave my salesperson the specs, the CS costed it out, my salesperson gave me the price, told me how long the wait would be, and it was paid for, in full, when the order was placed.

Depending upon what's in the pipeline, and what priorities they choose to give to VIP's which might shuffle the deck, you can figure on 6-12 months. In my case, after a long wait, they got the neck wrong, and it had to go back...another six months.

It's a lovely instrument, but you gotta love the idea of a special order, or buy something build by them which is already on the wall.

I know EMG makes the DG20 setup, if you're looking for the Gilmour sound, this will definitely help. He has a wonderful tone, as we've all heard on Pink Floyd albums over the years.

It goes for around $300.00

Several years ago I owned a '97 American Standart Stratocaster, in natural finish with a rosewood fingerboard. I swapped the DG20 into that guitar. The combination of the MOTO pickguard, and beige plastic blended beautifully. I also expect it would look good against white paint.

In my opinion, these electronics confer on the instrument a strictly lead guitar role. You cannot roll the effects back to give you a soft rhythm guitar tone. So if you don't mind reserving this guitar for that purpose, it's a great performer.

With respect to the 9V battery....I took exception to the idea of have to remove the pickguard to change the battery. My first thought was to modify the tremolo cavity rout, as in the Clapton, so that the battery would sit in the lower wall. I learned that '97 was routed to what has been called the "swimming pool", so there would not have been any support for the battery. What we did was to remove the center spring from the tremolo system and seat the battery in that space. For my purposes it was not an issue in that my Strats have their blocks stopped as in the Clapton. It is also a more conservative approach because the procedure can be reversed.

To sum up, its a great system to power a Stratocaster, and I would recommend it highly to anyone interested in that tone.
