Easier said than done Rudager, I paid in full for the guitar the same day I ordered her. In retrospect perhaps not the smartest thing to do, but I was assured I would be first on the list to get one. Even if I did buy from wildwood, the customs and excise charges would make it more expensive than I'm already paying. October is almost upon us, she will be here soon enough :) Thanks for the link though, and the thought :)

Here's the latest from my dealer as of Thursday's conversation with the Custom Shop:

"They have not shipped out yet. Their orders are prioritized and are
among the first batch to go 2 day air. I estimated that they would leave
this week and still may go tomorrow or Monday. AT THE LATEST they will
ship out next week."

That's the first batch....I don't know how many are in that lot. Looks like Fender set expectations incorrectly. I only hope they didn't cut corners to make the deadline.

The suspense is killing me, but my only sanity is the fact that all of you are freaking out with me. Thanks for the help, lol.

Like I said earlier, better to wait and let the CS do it right than to have them built them like a production (factory line) model! For one I'm willing to wait and let them do thier thing!! 8)

One quick question.

Does the NOS have a black nitro finish over sunburst like the relic or is it just a black nitro finish? I'm hearing different things from different sources.

To me NOS or relic, the finish should be identical, black over sunburst.

i don't think so. Go to Fender.com and check out the features on each guitar. There is no black over 3 tone sunburst on the NOS.

I just picked up the Phil Taylor book, and in the specs for Dave's guitar today, it lists the bridge pup as a Seymour Duncan SSL-1 and the neck and middle are from late 71/72.

That was all that was mentioned. I am wondering why Fender went with the SSL-5 in the bridge and CS Fat 50 in the neck, was this a last minute change?

I was just wondering. I don't have the dough to buy this beautiful instrument, but I have CS 69's and love them. I was toying with the idea of making some changes and would love to hear your thoughts.

it is David himself who has picked out the pickups that sounded closest to the originals so i dont care what type pickups it is in it when David himself says "this is as close as you can get to the original"
