I read some time ago that Fender was coming out with a David Gilmour Custom Strat, modeled after his all-black strat used at Live 8. Anyone else heard anything about this?

That will end up as one of Fenders best sellers ever!

Is that the Dark Side of the Moon Strat? With the 50's/60's body (I can never remember) and the 70's neck?

The time for a David Gilmour Signature Strat is long overdue. As to the features; any of his current Strats with the EMG pickups/electronics would be a great place to start.

Does everyone know the difference between a Signature Guitar and a Tribute Guitar? Compare the Artist Series SRV strat, which is a Signature Guitar, with the beat-up exact replica of the Rory Gallagher Tribute Guitar.

Well, with that in mind, I read today that they are planning on releasing a Signature Guitar in July 2007, but admit that this is more realistic for January 2008. They also hinted that a Tribute guitar (with all the correct nicks and dings and scratches etc) will be released sometime later.

Hope this helps.

There has previously been a lot of internet chatter about this, and it's reported to be the black one, not red/EMGs. I think there was a quote from his tech to that effect but it could of course have been invented by some fan or troll.

I'm looking forward for the Gilmour signature strat. I'm really curious how it will play and sound. I hope the price won't be too high, though that wouldn't stop me from buying one, if it's really good :)

gilmourish.com really is a great website. I go there a lot as I'm a huge Gilmour/Floyd fan.
