Hi,

I got my '71 Strat back in 2009 and after a few years I noticed that the colour of the headstock was becoming darker. It's a tone of mid brown right now that I'm not really liking when I look at my guitar.
What are my options?
Can I get a replacement neck from the CS that looks less aged?
Thanks!

M.

Probably not unless you pay for it yourself. Fender generally does not assume responsibility for problems regarding finish discoloration or color changes.

Thanks,

I'd be more than willing to pay for a replacement. Do you know who should I contact for this matter?

FCS doesn't make spare parts.

Hi 70's strats had different laquer finishes in the headstock and the rest of the neck. Or I am wrong?

I think a different colour might be normal in a 70's strat reissue like yours.

Usually when the headstock is darker, it's because it has aged the laquer and if the guitar has been refretted and the maple fingerboard has been refinished it will naturally be newer and won't have aged as much

fender have copied this on some models, like this 1968 custom shop relic

That is correct.
The headstock face was nitro while the rest of the neck was poly.
I'm not sure what year they went to 100% poly, but the aging pattern is something likely to be replicated on a CS.

The front of the headstock darkening more than the rear is normal. As previously stated by others, for this era (when Fender was switching from Nitro to Poly), the front part of the headstock was nitro (to avoid the poly eating the decals) while the rear was poly. I am attaching pics of my 1974 Stratocaster (actual, not reissue or custom shop) to show that that is what is supposed to happen from a guitar of that era. It may be hard to tell from the pics but the front is significantly darker than the rear. I also think they applied nitro over the maple fretboard as well, as the finish has completely dissolved over the years.

The marks on the back of the neck are from when some fool added a floyd rose to it.
