Hi guys. I just bought my first used custom shop heavy relic 64 limited edition. One thing I'm pretty doubtful about it is the color of my dots on the part of the neck closest to the body, they're kind of yellowed. What do you think? Is it something which occur often or is it specific to my guitar? Please check the image at the link. Thanks a lot

Hi,

Google Drive doesn't allow hotlinking.

Your guitar has clay dots on the fingerboard and upper side of the neck, which is normal for a Fender from that vintage. Clay was replaced by pearloid in late 1965.

Hard to tell.
I see the neck is reliced.
Are you sure you are not just seeing an absence of yellowed lacquer on the white ones? :D

This cosmetic detail won't affect playability.

Of course not, I was just curious about something I haven't seen before on any guitar, especially custom shop

That's common on Relics (and on real worn old guitars). I'm surprised you haven't seen that before.
On old guitars, clear nitro yellows as it ages, and wears away from contact with the player's skin. Most people don't play the highest notes much, so less of the nitro wears away at the higher frets. So on the lower frets there's little to no nitro covering the side dots and you see the true color of the dots. On the higher frets there's a layer of yellowed nitro.

On Relics they simulate that with tinted nitro and sandpaper. But it's the same principle -- the tinted nitro changes the appearance of the dots.
