Hi there , I just bought from a friend a 2004 fender custom shop stratocaster 1960 nos .
Althought the COA certifies that it's a 1960 nos model , the guitar has black picguard & pickup covers and a very light ash body with natural finish ( I'm not sure if it's thick nitro lacquer or poly ) and looks like those strats in the late 70's , except the neck of course .
In the fender registration site when I put the serial mumber , wrote that it is a 60 STRAT EURO SPEC NAT which I think means a 1960 nos strat with special specs , made special for the European market.
My friend ensured me that is 100% original and untouched as he bought her from a shop in Germany 14 years ago.
The fingerboard I believe is jacaranda ( Brazilian rosewood )
if anybody knows something more about that model , I''d really apreciate if he share it with me . Thanks in advance

the guitar is identical to that one http://www.strat-talk.com/threads/fende ... sh.462375/

It is not NOS it is NS , new stock
NOS is for a real '60, or '70 made guitar looking like a new one.

The 2004 Strat you talk about is not a old it is a new guitar

The CS does make new guitars that they call "NOS"
I agree... it's marketing and confusing, but it's what they call them. Production CS models have 6 different degrees of "relic" applied, ranging from "NOS" which is simply, "new", "Closet Classic" (gently loved), all the way to a heavy relic.

Yep common term not just applied to guitars (marketing) really means stuff stored on shelf for a time but in new condition.
NOS "new old stock" but many have neck and body stamped relic just to add to the confusion.
I think we are all talking the same language here.
But to the op you may not get much more info than that already provided but the fb looks like rosewood but unlikely brazilian :)

I don't disagree.
Regardless, this is a Fender forum and that is what Fender calls these CS models, whether they agree with us or with reality or not.

It might be useful the Fender know what customer think about their marketing when using wrong name.

As long as they keep selling them, I don't think they care. These are CS models that people spend $3,000+ for, and a true "NOS" Strat would be worth more than my house.

NOS, from the people that brought you "Relic"
A brand new CS guitar that's been beaten like the New York Jets is no more a "Relic" than is a sparkly new model. Heck, a true NOS would be more of a relic than the CS offerings.

But like Doctors that throw on a leather vest and ride their sparkly Harley 10 miles a week and think they are a biker, guitarists don't want their friends to know that someone else wore the finish down on their Strat.

Fender does get terms wrong once in a while like calling vibrato tremolo, and tremolo vibrato. So if they want to call the series NOS, but they are new guitars, they do what they want as long as they are selling. I don't think they really give a R__t's __SS (fill in the blank) unless they are not making them $$$$ then they care
