Buddy's MIA Artist series guitars are essentially Clapton powerplants with a less tapered V-neck in 2-tone sunburst ( a nod to the vintage Strat he played) or blond (which was the color offered first.)

It is likely not remembered that the first Artist Series guitar they built for him was short lived and ultimately became what we know as the Powerhouse Strat w/a 12db midboost. It was a light honey blond and I tried, with no success, to obtain one years ago.

The 'polkadot' according to my recent correspondence with Fender, is only offered in white on black, though we do see him with a white on black which I have named "The Dalmation Guitar'. It has also been shown, in catalogs, in white on red.

The pattern is generic. The stage guitar's pattern is very differently spaced and arranged. I also have noted white control knobs on the stage guitar. Its powerplant is likely gold Lace Sensors with black covers.

If you want the 25db midboost circuit you will likely have to rout for it as there is a rectangular rout in the lower bout near the horn for that board, and route the trem cavity as well for the battery. Having not removed the pickguard from the MIM guitar, I cannot tell you if the guitar is routed HSH generic. That might affect routing the trem cavity for the battery.

You can find an example of that currently on Ebay. Someone is offering a 7-UP Green Clapton body, and the routing is displayed.

I formerly owned this guitar and the only change I made was to swap in Dimarzio Vintage Blues in the neck and middle, and Heavy Blues at the bridge. It's a great player, but it went into my purchase of my CS Strat along with my '97 Clapton.

Hope this has given you some insights.

Doc

Have an authorized Custom Shop dealer inquire as to whether or not they will build an "as built for" Buddy Guy white on black polka dot and, if not, how close they might come to it. That might satisfy part of your query.

My CS is described on it Certificate of Authenticy as Custom 1965 Stratocaster NOS #R19402. Apparently they used that as a base. This was intended to be my heroes tribute guitar, a nod to all the influences in my past 50 who played Stratocasters, and to my first which was a '58 SB.

The original order was for a "Clapton" platform (unsigned) finished like an "SRV"(body, neck, gold hardware,) rosewood board) so you have an idea of what the guitar looks like visually, though the bridge/trem is right handed. The pickups are SCN's and run through the 25db midboost circuit. The neck is V-profiled though not as sharp as I would have preferred. The pickup covers, controls and pickguard are all black, no engraving. The pickguard has 8-holes not 11.

It was sent back the first time round because the guitar had a C-neck. I had specified a Clapton neck, satin finished. It was returned with a V-neck, gloss finished, and I was about finished waiting any longer so I accepted it. The guitar was ordered in June of '04 and roughly 18mos elapsed on this order including the return, which took 6+ mos and that was a rush.

Your MIM Buddy Guy will likely not realize much in trade. Mine also went towards my CS and had added value because of the DiMarzio's.

Depending on model choice, you can figure $2500-$3500 US on a guitar from the CS catalog. Made to order is different, and their is a current Forum posting dealing with those costs.

Used gear will be a shop around and ask expedition, but I would begin with dealers who are authorized CS reps. Not all are.

Good luck and keep us posted
