Hi All,

I have a Custom Shop Guitar, Serial# 1191, which shows up as:
SHOWMASTER RW CRT - Model# 0104200838
After registering that particular Serial# with the Fender website.

I purchased this in Alberta, Canada in 2005, it is in mint, almost unused condition (including G&G original case) I am wondering if anyone knows where I could find some additional information on this guitar, I have had a hard time finding any information online or otherwise.

I have sent an email to consumer relations at Fender, and am awaiting a reply from them.

Hi All,

NOTICE: Prices and Specifications Subject to Change Without Notice

I was always wondering about the fact that this Showmaster has a smaller body and no bindings compared to the few other examples I could find online, but as I see this was an option for the body itself (Downsized Alder Body with Carved Flame Maple Top)

I do wonder if 'Custom Shop Set "Neck/Contemporary " Series' is just a name or is actually supposed to refer to the neck construction as this does not appear to be a set neck but rather a bolt on neck (chromed FCS Plate with Screws/Series# on the heel)

Sorry, I do not have any images hosted anywhere at this time.
I will try and put up the photos I sent to Consumer Relations.

Hi,

The Showmaster initially came with a pickguard and a pair of Texas Specials.

After John Suhr's departure in 1997 it became a sleek set-neck superstrat with carved top and scraped binding handcrafted by Gene Baker, founder and actual CEO of Baker Guitars.

Some Showmasters were bolt-ons while others featured either a deluxe locking bridge assembly or an original Floyd Rose tremolo system. Later versions sported an S-1 switch.

The Showmaster was discontinued in 2009.

The Elites came with tribal sun inlays and a black-painted Telecaster headstock. They were available in stoptail and tremolo versions.

Production shifted to Korea and Indonesia in 2005 before the line being taken out of production 4 years later.

Hi Chromeface, thanks for the info,

I noted that the email from Fender Consumer Relations stated "DISCONTINUED 1999" but assumed this was a typo, as this is a 2001 and all information I could find says it was discontinued in 2009... and as for the body, I was confused as most Showmaster examples have the larger body with bindings, but was led to understand this was an option, "Downsized Alder Body with Carved Flame Maple Top" and have since seen a few other pics of Showmasters with similar un-bound carved bodies.

Appreciate any and all the info everyone!

Earlier Showmasters were crafted by John Suhr during his CS days.

The original intent was a US-made replacement for the MIJ Contemporary and HM series. John put a great deal of effort to build a high-end boutique instrument and the result was the US Contemporary Showmaster, featuring an aged white pearloid pickguard, Mini Floyd bridge and Sperzel locking machine heads. Pickups were 2 Texas Specials in the neck & middle and a Duncan '59 Trembucker in the bridge. Controls included master volume/tone and a super 5-way blade switch.

After his departure from Fender the Showmaster became a sleek carved top set-neck superstrat with backrouted controls and hand-scraped binding built by Gene Baker. Two Fat '50s single coils replaced the Texas Specials and a decade later an S1 switch offering a greater palette of tonal options has been added.

Bonjour,

Showmaster Elite with a single Duncan '59 Trembucker pickup and EVH control layout plus a nice sword inlay @ 12th fret as a bonus.
