Aargh! The UPS man brought me a new NOS Jazzmaster this afternoon. :D The weather was pretty mild out, no need for heat or AC. Let the box sit for an hour before pulling the case out, and then let the case sit for three more hours to acclimate. Couldn't wait any longer than that, so I popped it open and the first thing to catch my eye was several long cracks across the finish. It's checked up pretty good, probably a dozen or more streaks across the body, front - back - around the edges, basically all perpendicular to the strings. I know I've seen those warning tags that say not open it for 24 hours, although this one didn't have one. But it couldn't have possibly checked like that instantly just from opening the case too soon, could it? :? I've prematurely opened plenty of new guitars and never seen one come checked like that.

It was sent UPS ground.

Of course it's inevitable over time, but I'm really not into the relic thing. Last year I took the plunge on a CC that, in every other way, was too nice to pass up, but the first thing I had to do was clean it up very well.

I have never had it happen personally but I have seen pics.
Extreme sudden changes will do it immediately.
Did you have or get current photos prior to shipping?
Finish issues can be problematic to resolve.
Hard to say what can be done about unless you have a right of return etc
If bought from a retailer contact them to see what options you have or at least query a discount... :D

There's nothing to be done for it. It's like the first time you put a ding in a new guitar, first you curse it and then you get over it. It's a fantastic playing and sounding guitar in every other way.
