Below is some intersting info for those thinking of spec'ing out a Team Built Guitar

Basically you would start with a model that is closest to what you are looking for, and make mods from there

as an example, and off the shelf NOS 60 strat is $3150
closet classic add $326 - relic add $494

Now for Teambuilt, there is a "one time upcharge" that you will pay, and below, between the --- lines, are all of the things you can alter that are "included" in this upcharge of $650

------
And color you want, about 100 to choose from
choice of finish - poly or nitro
neck shape options - C, V, 10/56 - about 30 to choose from
Nut Type - bone, graphite, brass...
Fretboard Radius
Fret Markers - clay, white, pearl, black
Fret wire - vintage, 6105, medium jumbo........
Fretboard wood - maple or rosewood
Pickups - any Fender Standard Custom Shop Pups
-------
everything between the dashed lines above is included in the $650

Below are "in addition" to the $650 "one time upcharge"

A flame, or birdseye $157
AA flame or birdseye $237
Ebony fretboard $100
Dark Rosewood $100
LSR Roller Nut $43
Wilkinson Nut $200

Ash Body $165
Light Weight Body $110
Gold Hardware $264

Differnent tuning keys $43

Yes, it comes with the same one the "normal" would have

the Custom Classics have the emblem

the Time Machines would have the same blank
one iwth the serial number, like Rxxxxx

just like they did way back then

btw, your local dealer should have the form for specing
your team built, there are a lot of options, and a boat
load of colors, it's a lot of fun to look through

cheers

Dude! I just posted on the Strat forum on what I should do with my strat. I never considered this option because I figured it would be too expensive. This is do-able! Thanks man for the ray of hope!

you're quite welcome

and yes it's a lot less expensive than one would think

One of the keys is to find a good dealer to work with
Quote prices vary drastically for the same spec

I'll try to find the order sheet I had an post it
it's a fun read

cheers

Hello Rickc007,

I recently got a teambuilt quote.
and it's very close to what you published
they threw in a few freebies too.

9 to 12 months to delivery

I gotta make shure I can
come up with the cash.

Cheers.

In addition to the neckplate specific to the type of guitar built as previously described. you will have the crest on the back of the headstock and the signature of the builder if masterbuilt.

What I don't understand is why I have to get hit so hard in the pocket if I want the neck they've put on the '57 Hotrod put on a different guitar.
That kind of change shouldn't justify 'twice the price is nice!'

 Doc

I ordered a team built CS guitar over two years ago. They didn't get the neck right the first time. It had to go back. It wasn't exactly right the second time but, tired of waiting for the guitar, I accepted it.

I asked for a quote on a hardtail '57hotrod. They quoted me over 3K, and
as it has been expressed elsewhere, $3999 + tax for an NOS Gilmour is a bit over top, even with all the little extras.

 Doc

am i correct in assuming that you have to start with a custom shop team built model as the 'base' in the first place. For example, what if one wanted a '57 American Vintage RI but with a different neck - is it the AVRI +$650?

Or would you have to start with something like the CS '56 +$650 for a different neck?

The price list is pretty much a guide.

To cut to the chase....you submit a proposal to an authorized Fender Custom Shop dealer you trust, for submission to California, and ask them to give you the retail and their 'street price' quote on a teambuilt guitar with those specs.

If you a satisfied, then be prepared to pay in full, up front, and settle down for a long winter's nap, forget about the guitar, and be surprised one day when you get the call that it has been delivered.

That's about the way it goes in the real world..........unless you're Alain. :P :P :P

In the present economic climate with shops going bust every week. Do FMIC guarantee you will get the guitar. I'd hate to have to get into legal wranglings with 'the receivers' over a £2k guitar.
Surely it would be a expidient move for FMIC too. Customer relations could handle the order and payment and the guitar could be shipped to the nearest stockist or delivered direct from the warehouse at additional cost. FMIC could then take the sellers profit. Jackson operate in a similar way with their custom orders and they are a part of FMIC.
