Hi,

I’m really curious about the one pickup Jason Smith Garahe Mod strat.
He has installed a 5-way switch with just one humbucker and has used some interesting options.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or even any experience with this guitar?
I’d love to know how the “fat” mode (which I believe is a 1uf cap on the screw coil) and the “underdrive” mode (I think it is a diode wired in some way) sound.

Hi Anthony,

The .1uf cap on the rear coil adds more bottom end to the tone. I have been told it makes a bridge humbucker sound similar to a neck position humbucker.

The Underdrive positions add a slight distortion to the tone, similar to a tube amp just starting to clip.

Hope this info helps! Unfortunately there is no diagram available.

Best,
FCS

Thank you for the reply.

That is really interesting about the .1uf cap helping to mimic the frequency response of a neck pickup.
Obviously it won’t be the same, but for a one pickup guitar that seems like a nice option to have.

Thanks.
