Hi,

Thinking of putting a HB pickup in the bridge of one of my '57's. Ash body. Maple neck.
Literally deluged and overwhelmed with all the famous Duncan/DiMarzio/ boutique choices, etc...

I like 70's classic rock and early 80's thrash metal.
My amps are a Fender '68 Custom Silverface Reissue (Deluxe Reverb) and a Marshall JMP 2203.

Wondering if anyone knows what some of the Masterbuilders like John Cruz or Dale Wilson use on their guitar builds?

Thank you!

IDK about the pup, but the 68 is not a "reissue" amp.

Seymour Duncans possibly but in your case you probably want a stacked hb... :)

+1

The '68 Custom is essentially a '65 Deluxe Reverb RI dressed as a '68 drip-edge silverface amp which has been modified with reverb & tremolo on both channels. It has also a Custom channel featuring a Bassman tone stack that gives a greater flexibility with pedals.

Unless the OP wants a full-sized humbucking pickup.

Fender makes 8-hole 1-ply guards routed for a regular HSS setup.

yeah but assuming is a true 57 body without an original humbucker it will only have a single route thus modification to the body may be required severely devaluing the instrument :D

In this case a single coil-sized rail humbucker is mandatory.

For a single coil sized rail humbucker there's only one real choice: Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. Everything else is just a weaker imitation (although a Dimarzio Super Distortion S is acceptable in the upper position with a full size Super Distortion in the bridge).

But really, the one custom shop guitar I have with a humbucker came with a JB. It's probably the best all-around choice for a hot humbucker, if you can fit a full sized one.

And now I'm curious to look under the pickguard of my '57 reissue, to see if by some odd chance it was routed to accommodate a full size humbucker.
