Anyone seen this? I'm still waiting for my Merle Haggard Tuff Dog and then they go and drop this one on me. This one looks like a hit. Clapton Journeyman Relic in two tone ash; Amazing.

I'd be curious to know how it plays, with a 9½" radius and vintage-spec fretwire.

As for the VN pickups, they can keep those. For noiseless operation I'd rather have Kinman's or DiMarzio's.

He'll probably use these guitars for his US & UK shows this spring.

I saw this guitar at Namm, and it did nothing for me. It looks like a re-hash of a 1956 Strat, but with Clapton pick ups in it. Clapton is shown playing a NOS, not a Journeyman Relic. I would have liked to seen the "Brownie" Strat made in a more affordable version for us working musicians.

Yes, Clapton is seldom seen with anything beat up. He doesn't keep them for long enough to show wear, and when he does, he takes good care of them.

That's why Fender pays its marketing guys the big bucks.

Yep.. it's based on the modified (to EC electronic and neck specs) Buddy Holly Strats he got, none of which were relic, but these ones are relic.

The old days of the super-thin paint and glue necks was probably the last time - Strats produced in the 90s.

If there was a NOS option I wouldn't hesitate. I have a NOS 56 2TSB and a Custom Clapton in Mercedes Blue . An ash 2TSB Clapton in NOS would have been a perfect fit and a nice subtle contrast. I've never been a relic guy but if this is the only option available I might have to change my mind.

I currently own 5 Custom Shop ECs, and I find these two new versions quite disappointing.
EC doesn't play relic guitars for the most part. The Daphne Blue LTD was more to my liking.
I should have picked one of those up....but I would have had to sell one.

Hello Elliot!

First of the 2 nights at MSG yesterday, found a fragment from the gig:

It appears he's sticking with the same mercedes blue guitar he used during the Japanese 2016 tour. Amps-wise there's his tweed '57 Bandmaster and a blonde Vibro-King for the Leslie cabinet.

Let's face it we don't know what it is. Under the lights his face looks bright red in lots of videos, which we know is not right. So it could be Mercedes Blue, Porsche Blue, Porsche Grey, Ferrari Blue, Underpants Grey, Mother-in-laws Dress Blue... but in reality it is probably a car colour. If I was a betting man I'd say it's not Mercedes

Those amps sure fell on their face when it was time for the solo. I've never heard anything sounding so weak and mediocre from Clapton's live-performance videos.

Very lame!

Even if it's not Mercedes we'll always have him playing one on the Hyde Park concert release. In my opinion he was at his very best in both tone and playing. That DVD started my obsession with getting my own Mercedes blue with a flame neck. I remember the good old days of watching it over and over thinking there is no way that guitar is black, it's blue, no wait, it's black, look at it compared to Andy's black strat, it's blue !

I remember it was a huge mystery at the time and then the photos started to pop up online. For some reason I had even referred to it as Mercedes "green" . That one Mercedes blue Strat created a lot of discussion around these forums for what seemed like years. Ever since the Mercedes Start we all continue to wait and see what color he comes out with next. For me that was the Clapton custom color that started it all. I know there were others like 7 up green, etc. but the whole discussion seemed to explode around the time he turned up with the Mercedes Blue. The good old days...
