I have purchased a partscaster with possibly some Custom Shop pieces.
Image
I will show other pics later but what do you guys think of this body?
Also, the pickguard has a weird blue tone capacitor (it says "MOLDED 022-200 10% Made in US) that I never saw before on a Fender.
The neck and body and pickguard are 60's style vintage.
I bought the guitar with a black LTD Edition CS case and it has a LTD ED neckplate with matching COA.
I will post other pics later.
Does this body look authentic?

The body seems authentic and I see nothing amiss with the components mounted to the pickguard.

Are the pickups initialed "AY"?

Nicely flamed neck as well, CS case and COA.
What is it about the guitar that suggests it is not a genuine Fender?

The thing is, the guitar came with this 2011 COA and neckplate which obviously has the current CS logo.
But the neck and body has the older (second generation '94-'99) logo.
On top of that there is a date placed on the body (pic below) and on the neck that is also 2011 (although both the body and neck bare the older logo).
One thing I am sure of is that the neck originally didn't came with that body because the neck is not relic!
It does have nice flames on the back.
Could it be that someone placed a date on the body (and neck) to "match" the date of the COA?
The pickguard didn't look original to me because it is to whitish (shouldn't it be mint green for a '62 model?
Pickups have no CS stickers on it (although on production guitars that often isn't the case) but they don't have a red or blue painted dot..and that tone cap? so I am thinking pickguard and pickups are not Custom Shop. But they sound good..
The body looks authentic exept the date (which I think was added by someone.
The neck clearly has a date added were something was rubbed off (see pic)

And the date on that neck. You can see that it was written in an area where something was rubbed/sanded off.

Other pics of the neck. Don't know if this is a CS (maybe AVRi?).
Tuners are single line "Kluson Deluxe")

The guitar looked like this when I bought it.
With the pickguard and knobs too shiny white.

Because this is a partscaster I got a little further and changed the pickguard, knobs (Montreux relic parts) and the pickup covers, tremolo tip and selector switch tip..
It certainly looks more relic now.
Too damn for that shiny neck! Or at least the headstock..

So in short, I don't know what those pickups are and I am not sure if this is a CS neck.
My opinion is that someone changed/placed the date both on the body and neck to somewhat "match" the COA but clearly doesn't know that these are the wrong dates for that logo.
The body looks very convincing (exept for the date) and I cannot believe that someone would do such a good job at faking it (look at the pickup cavity" 60 NOS" and the logo carved /stamped). That looks exactly like others I have seen.
And then messed it up with the wrong date?
I think the dates were added by the person who put the neck, body, neckplate and electronics together, to correspond the COA..
What do the expert here think?

I'm no expert but looking through the CS webpage,
http://www.fendercustomshop.com/retired-models/ for 2011 models, you're right to assume a partscaster. Not many black color options that year.
Send the customer support folks an inquiry w/ the serial# to confirm your suspicions.

I already send an email to Fender Consumer Relations and they answered this ;
"I have no record of "CZ521446" in my database... "
I had sent them some pics of the guitar when it was still assembled (with LTD Edition neckplate) and a pic of the COA and they answered that it looked legit.
Strange that they didn't notice that the back of the headstock has an older CS logo than on the COA of 2011.
Should have send pics of the guitar later when I disassembled it..

I own a '60 Closet Classic Relic in black purchased new last year from an authorized Fender Custom Shop dealer and its pickguard is white (like you, I would've assumed the mint green would be more appropriate). Not to say that yours is authentic to the instrument or not, but that should not be a major criterion for determining the guitar's pedigree IMO. I can say with certainty that Fender never splices pickup lead-in wire like that then tries to conceal the fact with shrink-wrap tubing, nor do they ever use cable ties to lace a wiring harness like that (at least not for the vintage-reissue CS instruments).
