Hello fellow forumites,

I have recently acquired a 1960 Custom Shop "Custom Classics" Series Stratocaster from a co-worker who needed some money quickly. The build was completed on 08/02/1995. Also, removing the tremolo backing plate reveals the name "John Cruz" stamped on the body.

I'll try to include pictures. Do any of you fine people know what a guitar like this would go for roughly? I am not interested to sell it at this point in time. I'd like to keep it for a few years and enjoy this beauty. I would just like a guesstimate on what I'm holding in my possession.

Here is also the email my friend received from the Fender Customer Service Rep when he inquired about the serial number.

Too beautiful to sell......I'd keep it forever!

Gotta be worth $2500 easy. Mebbe three grand.

Thank you very much for your estimated guess on the price. I figured it would be in and around there. As you said, I will keep it for a very long time. Probably won't get rid of it. It is really nice actually. Think I got a good deal on it.

Thanks again Arjay

Just a FYI, John Cruz did quality control back then, that's why his name is stamped on it, I had several 90's CS guitars, I believe all, or most had his stamp.

Thank you kindly for your input. I didn't think I had something hand built by him but knowing he played some part is good enough. I just want to know I got my money's worth ($1,200 was what I paid).

Thank you again my56strat.

You definitely got your money's worth, and then some, but you would be surprised how many of the 90's cs's are listed for sale as masterbuilt by John Cruz.

HAHAHAHAHA!!

I guess I did get a fantastic deal. I at least gave him the option to think about keeping it before I bought it.

So long as any coercion was self-induced by the seller, due either to his conscience or because of his spouse (perhaps they're one and the same, ha ha), you are blameless.
