I just saw on the Fender Custom Shop website that coming in May is a Gary Moore Tribute Stratocaster. Does anyone have information on this guitar? I had no idea that there was going to be a Moore Strat. :D

Yes, a Fiesta Red from ca. 1960/1961. :D

I'm fairly certain that this is a John Cruz baby. He was a great fan of Gary Moore, and there was a celebration of Gary's birthday and the first outing for the proto Gary Moore Tribute Strat in Budapest last weekend.
John was there, with the Strat.

What would make this Strat different from any other 60/61 custom shop guitars?

I don't know. Time will tell, but I presume the relic-ing will be close to the original, plus any variations it might have from stock.

Still, when I think of Gary Moore, I don't think of a Strat....

Very true Alain.
Though there is a good clip on the strat pack video of him playing the red strat.
A great version of red house. :D

I must say the first time I saw Gary play "THE STRAT" on the Fender anniversary gig performing Red House.. it took me a while to pick up my jaw from the ground!! then I thought why didn't gary play the Stratocaster more often??

Why? What is special unique about this Strat?

That's funny :))

I just never understood the desire for Artist tribute instruments that were most likely stock instruments. Ike Turner, Beatles and Buddy Holly Stratocasters, and Clapton's red Yardbirds Tele instantly come to mind. These are stock instruments one could get off of the shelf or order through the CS. There's no mojo that makes them special. Infact the only thing the made them special was their owners.

Conversly, The Andy Summers Tele, the Niles Rogers or SRV's Strat and guitars like that are unique to their owners. They look unique; they sound unique and would stand out anywhere you put them. Most giutars would be able to pick them out of a line up.

If one were to put a Sonic Blue Breatles, Ike Turner, or a 2CSB Buddy Holly Strat next to guitars that look and sound like them, you'd never know the difference. I will say that I could see the point in building a "Rocky" Strat. It is unique; not my cup of joe, but unique.

Besides a Marshall amp, is there anything special about this guitar cosmetically, design or electronics?

One presumes that the instrument will have a facsimile of Mr. Moore's signature affixed somewhere. That alone will justify the premium price as compared to a garden-variety '61 AVRI re-issue.
