Hey guys!!
Francesco from Italy here.
About two years ago you help me to decide and buy my beloved '68 Heavy Relic Strat from a Spanish dealer.

I love this guitar for its look and sound, but three day ago I had a sad suprise (imho) and I would like your support.

I decided to install a treble bleed circuit so, I removed the pickguard for the first time after purchase.

Here is my guitar...

And here's my doubt....so I ask you to help me.

I frist wrote to Fender Customer Support and they gently reply me that sometimes body has black painted in the cavities

Pickups to me look not original but Fender Customer Support says that could be the '69 original set.

Then I can see the volume pot full of solder residual even where there are no wires.

What do you think guys? I never expect from a brand new guitar purchased from a Custom Shop dealer, but we all know....surprises are behind the corner....

Thanks in advance for all your precious support!!

Cheers from Tuscany!!

I don't know who soldered that volume pot but they definitely should look for a new line of work such as pre-school child care or drive-thru food service.

The dark areas in the pickup routs *may* shielding paint though I don't recall ever seeing it applied to a historic re-issue (unless the customer requested it).

They aren't 69s …. possibly custom classic with that plate on the bridge pickup.
That paint probably shouldn't be there. What does the floor shop traveler say about it?
Someone has done a botch job with the wiring certainly not original.
The guitar would not have left the custom shop like that.
I am also concerned to see two string trees looks like one has been added but the body at first glance looks genuine.
:D

Dual string trees would be correct for a '68 Strat re-issue but it looks like the two parts were aged at different rates (could be the photo's lighting though).

I am not suggesting the neck is wrong.
I thought two string trees were introduced 71 but what the hell...
Thinking further the cs custom classic has baseplate screws for the bridge pu so maybe not those but certainly not 69s which have a grey base :D

You might be right, Jimmy.

I just took a look at some vintage Strats on Gruhn's website and everything pre-72 had only a single tree.

It wouldn't be the first time that the Custom Shop has stepped on its dick.

Yes Arjay I agree anything is possible e.g 9.5 radius etc.
I had a 69 built with a c shape neck.
One things for sure though and that is that guitar has been tampered with by someone outside the CS :D

+1, it looks absolutely wonky.
