I was watching the DVD of SRV live at the El Mocumbo and I noticed two Fender amps behind him. One looks like a Twin or maybe a Vibroverb and the other looks like an old Super Reverb. At first it looked like there were rectangles cut out of the Supers grill cloth but then when the camera got closer I'm pretty sure it was pieces of duck tape cut in strips and stuck on the grill cloth. I was watching this on my computer so the screen wasn't very big, it probably really stands out with a big screen. I was just curious what this was all about, if it was to somehow effect the sound or something else. It was great to hear this show again, I saw Stevie about this same time, 1983, and there was nothing like him. He played with a passion that we all wish we could. If anybody knows what he was doing with that amp, let me know.

The reason he did that is to block out high frequencies that the amp would produce. 8)

Makes sense. Do a lot of players do that? I've never noticed it before.

Thanks Hottrod. If it's good enough for Stevie, well you know.

They now make a product called beam blockers to do the same thing.

takes the bite out of your speakers for those directly in the path of the amp.

I have yet to try them, some swear they work ?????
