I plugged in my blues junior and it made a funny loud noise as I looked I could one of el84's like sparking sort of .So I turned off checked volume knobs made sure they were down then I plugged in again noise came back blew fuse on board. I replaced fuse and switched the two el 84's and it sparked in the other plug . Is this something that can happen with tubes haven't had a tube failure before my old super champ still using original tubes .I really love my blues junior its only seven months old I don't gig with it so a little disappointed it failed hope its just the tube .Any advice out there?

When you switched the sockets & the sparking tube went to the other site = that tube is bad. You need new EL84. Get a matched pair. I recommend the Sovtek EL84M (mil spec).

If your amp has adjustable bias pot, the bias should be reset for the new tubes.

I bought a new set of el 84s and replaced them original two had a number five on them. Then new ones are 6 s but there is something wrong because its like them amp has no wattage. This amp you could barely turn up master volume past two it was loud now you can turn both volumes all the way its not even up at all. I really loved the amp but unhappy that it broke after seven months . :(

You adjust the bias after replacing the tubes?

I never adjusted the bias on a amp before don't where to do it . When tube shorted it blew fuse on board hope didn't damage some other part.I will do some checking online but amp only 7 months old may just take to a repair shop.

Yeah, if volume is down... best to take the amp to a tech. You may have lost one of the two EL84's output section (blew a screen or grid stopper resistor). Not sure, if this amp has pot to adjust the bias. But, the idle current draw should be checked to be sure the amp is not running too hot. Or too cold.

Good luck!

Good news!

Often, when a tube shorts, it can take out a screen grid resistor, and tubes do fail from time to time. Hopefully that is all it was. 8)
