I just recently bought myself a second hand Blues Junior II and I am still educating myself about them -I've never owned a full tube amp before. Anyway, the inspection sticker with the letters that would help me date it appears to have been removed as I can't see it anywhere so I don't know how old it is exactly but I assume during it's lifetime it's had it's tubes replaced as they are Russian and I can't see an American company like Fender using Russian parts!! Anyway, my question is are the Russian SOVTEK tubes (pictured) any good? The amp works well and sounds great, just curious as to what brand of tubes are the "Rolls Royce" brand of tubes?!
Cheers!

Like any other company in a competitive industry, FMIC buys parts from all over the world including Russia and the Peoples' Republic Of China.

The Sov-Tek's are generally pretty good bottles and many tube companies re-brand then sell them under their own label.

As for them being the "Rolls Royce" of vacuum tubes, no way. I'd reserve that comparison only for any glass made before 1985 in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, or Japan.

All modern tubes are pretty good , it is also a matter of taste + music you play + the quality of the amp And more important : a good bias if we talk about output power tube.

Tubes Store ( with google) have a good review on most tubes to help you.

Firstly, I didn't say SOVTEK were the best, I asked which were the best!!

And as for "Retroverbial" -why do people like you have to be a smart $@! about telling someone something they don't know? I was always told to never be afraid to ask and that it's usually the smart ones that do ask questions so putting up laughing faces and mocking that I didn't know Fender use Russian parts just shows how childish you really are. What happened to "no harm in asking"?? People on some of these forums are so up themselves and seem to wait like trolls to pounce on someone's innocent mistake or typo error...get a life! These forums are for asking questions so if you have to be a smart $@! about it then why don't you go somewhere else? -Idiot.

Dan I think you miss read Arjy I think he was laughing with you not at you. He can be a bit snarky sometimes but it's all in fun , and his info is accurate. I could be wrong about the laughing part, not about the snarky and accurate part I'm pretty sure about those.

Out of all those 21,000+ posts he's made I wonder what percentage were just rubbish insults? -Probably most I'd say. That many posts proves he's a TROLL.

Dan you are waaaaaay off here, and you have no reason have an attitude from anything on this thread. Your life might suck, but it's not Retroverbial's fault.

Wow, out of the closet comes another troll -you all protect each other or something??
While you're all scrolling forums to post on things that have nothing to do with you -while also telling people whether their lives suck or not, I am playing my guitar -which judging by the amount of posts you've all made you don't do much of. Losers.

I've always liked JJ tubes in my Blues Junior but would suggest experimenting with different brands, most of your tone will come from V1 so start with that one to see if you like the change in tone.

I have played around a little bit with tube rolling.

In order of my favorites first:

Sovtek 12AX7LPS
JJ 12AX7
Used RCA 12AX7A
Groove Tubes 12AX7
Chinese tubes (I forget what they said on them)

JJ also makes a line of tubes where the pins are gold plated. They are supposed to be a step up from regular JJs.

My Blackstar came with TAD branded tubes and I have just left them in there. They sound good and every time I start rolling I feel like I fall down the rabbit hole.

Spitting insults to another forum member is unproductive and lowbrow, at best, so I will try once more to enlighten you regarding my post.

Firstly, I only have about 200 posts here and if you look you will find most are questions and answers (not personal garbage)

Next, Retroverbial and I have gone a few rounds in the past, so I'm really not inclined to defend anything he says here, in fact the last thing he needs is someone coming to his defence I'll leave that to him.

Furthermore, everyone has the right to post a reply to any subject here, You asked for other opinions when you post here and should welcome them.

Lastly, I only replied here for the benefit of the forum (not in support of anyone else) It's in all are best interests to have as many opinions, from as many people as possible. You never know who will provide the answer you need, you could be the guy that has information that no one else has. Having you go away angry over a misunderstanding is pointless. Having someone someone answer a question correctly, even with some snarky comment , is harmless as long as you get the right information. I could care less if some anonymous online poster thinks I'm stupid or hurls an insult, it just demonstrates there inferiority.

Spending this much of my valuable time shows how much I have benefited form the information I've received here, I saved a $2k amp, confirmed the authenticity of a $3k strat, and got all kinds of suggestions that have made me a better player. I welcome all comments, but don't bother commenting rudely i'm teflon .

Whoa! Think we have a slight miscommunication, here. :) From Arjay's post to your question, this is what I gather:

1.) Fender uses Russian made tubes.

2.) They are ok. But, prolly not the same league as vintage US, Euro, or Japanese made 12AX7.

From my experience and mostly my opinion... the Sylvania JAN-JHS mil spec 12AX7, RCA 7025, Telefunken ECC83 (or E83CC), Raytheon 12AX7A and 5751, Mullard (Blackburn, England) ECC83, Valvo E83CC were considered some of the best 12AX7 tubes made. Black plate, 1950s issues being the finest examples of this type.

You don't understand, Steve......you are now part of the vast conspiracy to "get" Dan999 and piss in his Wheaties as well.

Best that you turtle up now under your Kevlar and wait for his flak.
