Picked up this Champion 600 and a Mercury magnetics kit for free from some one who bit off more than they could chew. Only money I spent was for new JJ tubes and some grill cloth. The price was right. ImageImageImageImage

That is a HUGE output tranny, compared to the original. Has it effected the famous Champ "saturated" OD tone? Just for comparison sake, here are photos of the PT and OPT in an original 1948 Fender Champion.

Thanks!

OPT is on the side of the circuit. That tiny thing that looks like a choke.

I've never played a original so the only comparison I have is a You tube video where they did a side by side test. They both sounded the same to me, but wtf do I know. :)

That is a pretty special acquisition, you lucky b.....

I'm not sure those trannies would even fit in my modified 600 after fitting an 8" speaker.

When you consider the transformers are probably worth more than the amp it is a pretty serious undertaking.

I love the simplicity (if not rather frightening construction ) of the original, with the components soldered direct to the chassis.

I do have a hankering to get another one (three isn'the too many) and rip out the PCB and start again.

That's true point to point wiring. I've built a couple of low wattage amps like that as well as some pedals and a tube driven reverb unit. It's a little tougher build but works great. Lead dress is really important. Low wattage amps are a blast to build.
