Hello all,
I am new to the forum, however have read many post. I am a builder of roots instruments and like Leo, never played until about two years ago. I am in the market for a tube amp. This will be my first tube amp, and mainly play at home and wanting to be able to play at a few places local that have a blues open mic night.
I have played the 65 Deluxe Reverb, the 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, and the Blues Jr. at a Guitar Center. There is no places here for me to check out a 68 custom vibrolux. Both deluxes sound great, however I did like the 68 custom deluxe better, and is the sound I am looking for, even without petals. However it does break up a little early. So I want to hear the thoughts of others on the 68 custom vibrolux. How much louder is the cleans before break up? Does it sound as good at low volume as I have heard some say on youtube.? Also would take on any recommendations to other fender amps for home and small gigs and friend jams. Not really wanting a Blues Jr. Any advice would be great. I know this is a on going request, but hoping to get some good input from experienced players. Play mainly blues, some classic rock.
Thanks Todd

That's a tough question because I don't own a 68 Vibrolux. I do own a Blues Junior. I would think all the 68 custom amps mentioned are a step up in quality and power. They certainly cost more, a little more than I care for.

It's a dream purchase for me, any of the Fender 68 custom amps. Based on amp wattage I would Guess the Vibrolux (35W) has more headroom before breakup. The Vibrolux has 6L6 tubes where the 68 DRRI has 6V6 tubes, a lower wattage tube, and the BJ with the EL84 power tubes. I'd say you've got to like 2-10" speakers to like the Vibrolux. As you mentioned, and other comments i've read, the 68 amps breakup earlier than the non 68 Reissues.

My question is: Is the 68 DRRI a better amp than the 68 Princeton? I always seem to read positive comments about how great the Princeton reissue is, where as maybe not so many about the 68 DRRI.
I hope you get the amp you want, if not buy another one.

Oh I forgot to mention, if you can consider the 68 Vibrolux, why not spend another $100 and just get the 68-85W Twin. I would think that amp would be the best off all, just saying an't much price difference at that level.
