The second guitarist in our Blues band is looking to replace his Blues Jr. which struggles to stay clean when when we add a drummer and my HRD. He's leaning towards the Bugera V22. I played the amp and like what I heard but would also like to hear from people who have gigged with this amp especially with regard to reliability.

Thanks and Cheers!

Wouldn't your curiosity be better served by posting this question on a Bugera amp forum?

Thanks for turning on my light bulb, Arjay.

Although it is certainly possible that some members here have gigged with Bugera amps, it just hit me that I'm asking about the reliability of these amps on a forum where it would be logical to assume that most people gig with Fender amps.

Cheers!

Had two (first one failed within a week). Hated the second with a passion! Worst amp I ever owned IMO. Sold it a year later.

I let the magic smoke out of one in the showroom at GC. The sales guy was miffed.

I played one a while back . If I remember they were pretty inexpensive and I went away not liking the tone at all. Noisey as hell too. I heard their reliability was pretty bad. Is he sold on the el84s or is he open to other options? In el84 land a Peavey Classic 30 might be a better choice.

+1

There's also Vox's AC30.

That crossed my mind too. Or a Marshall if he wants to get into el34 territory. Personally I would go with a DRRI and if the drummer is too loud get a new drummer.

No worries. Our drummer is cool. Hardly ever goes off the deep end into a Heavy Metal solo during a Blues number ...

The DRRI is an excellent choice but it is also almost three times the price of the V22 and I don't think he can afford that right now. Then again there is much wisdom in Arjay's signature line so if reliability is not there then purchase price becomes irrelevant. Since my initial post I've done a little "Googling" and what I've read, along with the comments in this thread, do not exactly inspire confidence in the V22.

Thanks for the feedback. As always, it's very much appreciated.

Cheers!

I totally understand. If your bandmate watches , he can find the drri used at a pretty cheap price . I have seen them on craigslist for 600 to 700 pretty regularly.

Maybe a speaker upgrade for the BJr, or just use an external cab. A closed back 1x12 with a decent speaker could be a good improvement, but a 2x12 or 4x12 would absolutely rock!
