I just got a Fender Rock Pro head.Seems to be a pretty good amp,but to my style of playing it sounds a bit too fuzzy & treble-ish & distorts even when the gain is set low.I was wondering if I can replace the tubes to make it sound more softer & sweeter, with more sustain. What tubes can I get which will be an easy straight replacement?
Pls recommend.

Thanks.

There are mixed reviews on this amp.

Read them here http://www.rukind.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=419&t=12468

Brand new amp or second hand ?

Second hand amp may need to see a qualified tech

It only has one tube, and it's a 12AX7. I suggest the Mullard 12AX7.

The Genelex/Gold Lion 12AX7 may be a better choice.

Regardless, if the amp still sounds too "feral" with either tube, try an NOS mil-spec 5751 to smooth out the rough edges.

A good 12AX7 will help a bit, but high performance op amps will smooth out the tone as well.
Replace U1 to U6 with Texas Instruments TLE2072 or Burr Brown OPA2134.
They are only a few bucks each, but you need a tech to install them.

If the amp is new , better to return to the store to buy a amp with the sound "jesuscare" like.

No waranty he like the sound with new OP amp or new tube.

Speaker defective ?

Fender discontinued production of the Roc Pro in 2000.

Looking at the schematic, I've never seen a tube used in this kind of circuit. There is no plate voltage on it. It seems like the tube is only in there for a subtle effect.
You will get much better improvement in sound by upgrading the op amps.
Upgrading C2 and C3 with film capacitors will also help

The tube is where all of the distortion in the drive channel comes from. This a hybrid amp, never liked the sound of it very much but I didn't do much tube swapping back in those days.

I had one. It wasn't too bad. Mine was the 112 combo version of the 1000. There was also a 112 combo 700. Both of the combos suffered from really poor quality speakers more than anything else. Farty flabby blah blah tone. If you stuck a decent speaker in them they perked right up. Never tried the head version. IIRC I think maybe it lacked one feature compared to the combos, possibly reverb.
