I got the Fender Blues Deluxe about 6 months ago and I cannot stand the speaker anymore. It's okay at very low volumes but if I turn it up anywhere past 3, the higher notes are just way too loud and ear-piercing. So I'm gonna replace the speaker since that's what most people say they've done with this amp. I play a lot of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan style. I play an American strat with fat 50s pickups and I am planning on putting the Eric Clapton mid boost into it. I've been looking at either the Eminence GB128 or the Texas Heat as I've seen some other people suggest these on other forums. So I'm hoping someone could give me a good suggestion on what speaker I should put in.

Thanks

The Texas Heat would be an outstanding choice, as would Eminence's Red, White & Blues. For a warmer, more vintage vibe, Celestion's alnico Gold might be the ticket.

Cool thanks for the input Arjay. I appreciate it. I'll look into the Celestion.

It's a bit pricey (relative to the Eminence candidates) but a real sweet-sounding speaker.

Keep in mind that any new speaker will need some break-in time before it really starts to sing. The Emi's usually require 30 to 40 hours, the Celestion gold about fifty.

Of the two you mention I think the GB128 will be most suited to make the highs rounder - and it's very fair priced.
You could look into the Swamp Thang which I think is as popular choice a for Blues Deluxe as the Texas Heat, but I have no first hand experience.
When you are looking into Celestion the G12M 65w Creamback may be a good option if you want some genuine Brit mid roar.

No matter what you end up with, I doubt you will regret - anything will be better than the stock speaker, even right out of the box :)

Thanks Johnny. The Creamback does look very nice. I'm thinking I may go with that one. Appreciate it.

I've never used the Celestion G12M-65 "Creamback," but I do like the Celestion "Vintage 30".
For what it is worth, you get a much larger magnet in the Vintage 30
The Vintage 30 has a 50 oz. magnet versus 35 oz. magnet in the Creamback.
You probably can't go wrong with either speaker.

http://celestion.com/product/1/vintage_30/

I bought my BDR a few years ago in 2009.
It had the following speaker which I think is a pretty decent speaker:
"12" Special Design Eminence® 8 ohm, 50 watt Speaker, p/n 0994812002"

The current Fender BDR Specs list, only lists: "12" Eminence® Special Design, 8 ohm"
So you can't tell if this is the same speaker.
Even if the speaker has the same part number, the speaker design may have changed.
If the speaker is as bad as you describe, the speaker has probably changed.

I also got the matching Fender Hot Rod Deluxe tweed enclosure cab.
http://www.fender.com/guitar-amplifiers ... 10000.html
The enclosure cab came with the following HARSH speaker:
12" Celestion® G12P-80, 8 ohm Speaker, (P/N 0054420000)
This shrill speaker provided a whole new definition for the term "ice pick".

I put the Vintage 30 in the amp, and put the original Fender/Eminence Speaker in the cab, and they sound great together.
I put the Celestion G12P-80 in the trash.
If you get the cab, remove the back, replace the speaker, and run the cab with an open back, as the cab sounds much better with the back open with the open back amp.
Fender should really cut a hole in the back of these enclosures.
