I play strictly in my home. Never gigged and no plans to do so. I love the clean sound of a Blues Jr and I like the way is breaks up as it gets turned up. But it really is too loud for my living room playing. Does anyone have an idea for how I can convince Fender to make a 1 watt amp like a Blues Junior. There is a 1 watt amp by another company that I have but the clean sounds leave me disappointed. Maybe the is no market for such a small Fender tube amp. If they made one I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Fender used to offer the "Greta", a small table-top amp with a built-in speaker. I think it was something like a 2- or 3-watt platform. You might try hunting one of those down.

I don't know that you're ever going to get a good clean sound at 1 watt.
Maybe 4 or 5 or more watts.

Thanks for the tip Arjay. I don't know much about tube amps. Always played on ss. Just recently did I realize how good tube amps sound. I get a little overwhelmed with all the features on modeling amps. Plus, now that I can hear the difference I don't think I'll ever go back to ss. I am playing through a ht1r and it sounds great with gain turned up a bit. But I love the Fender clean sound. How come it would be hard to get a good clean sound in a low watt amp?

As an example, the 1-watt rating of a 1-watt amp is typically achieved with a total harmonic distortion (THD) measurement of 5% -- just about what the fuzzboxes of yore generated. To get a truly clean audio signal from such an amp, the likely power output would be something on the order of 300 miliwatts. Hardly sufficient to drive a speaker let alone let the guitar develop any significant dynamics. Honestly, if I were seeking a relatively quiet amp for home use, I'd buy a vintage Champ, Vibro Champ, or Bronco -- blackface or silverface. They produce nice cleans with ample volume to spare and when overdriven they sound raucously lovely.

You can't know what low power amps you need / will do the job . Best is to invest in a good speaker attenuator and use your Blues Junior

+1

The Weber Mass Attenuator or THD's Hot Plate would probably get the job done.

The OP's amp has only one speaker (8Ω) so if he orders the purple Hot Plate he'll be just fine.

So I have just spent the better part of two hours looking at various forums and found that others have my problem too. Some answers say attenuate -- others say no. Too many opinions to sort through. I play now through an HT1R and I guess I will just stick with that for the time being. I still think it would be cool if Fender made a really low watt amp -- with reverb. It would have to sound more Fendery than what I use now. Peace and thanks for the replys.

I don't know how handy you are, but I just built one of these in about four hours and it sounds great.

Kind of a Marshall with a Fender tone stack. It puts out roughly 8 watts, has volume, bass and treble controls that when pulled, makes the bass control give you a mid boost, the treble control becomes a bright switch and the volume has a "Turbo" function when pulled and gives you a pretty hefty volume and gain boost. I took me about four hours to build and is quiet as a mouse and was a pretty easy build. It's going to be a great practice/recording, small gig amp. It has a fair amount of headroom too when not in Turbo mode. I'm getting ready to mod it with a headphone jack and possibly make the turbo mode foot switchable.

I know you said the features of the modeling amps overwhelm you, but the Fender Fuse software is really, really easy to use and is very simple to understand. It's graphics that look like the real amp! You can pick up a Mustang 1 for just over $100, or used for less. You obviously use a computer (you're posting on this forum). Watch some of the tutorials about the amp on youtube, or look through this forum for beginner advice on the Mustang (particularly Scott from UK on the Mustang forum). You'll be pleasantly amazed at the sounds you can get from that amp. I have both a Mustang 1 and a Super Champ X2. I couldn't be happier with the tone of those amps. Both sound great at living room volumes. And the Mustang will take headphones.
