Gotta hand it to those QC/QA folks at FMIC.

Definitely a qc issue they need to be made aware of. I wonder how many more are like this floating around?

I installed a Wathen Cryotone AT7-WC in V3 and it's a winner. They package the tube in a cardboard protective sheath and send priority overnight. I've been impressed.

The only other noise I hear now is coming from my single coil active emgs, and a couple long plate tubes I wanted to give a try in V2 and V4.

The Sovtek 12AX7LPS in V2 sounds really good. Don't know how long it will last. The long plate JJ I got went microphonic quickly and it's noisiy in 4.

My reverb sounds phenomenal, but when my reverb is on I get the pop when I hit the vibrato. I'm thinking about doing the foot switch capacitor mod found here:

More than FMIC would care to admit.

I love Fender amps. I just wish somebody were still building them.

:(

Yeah the design is just fine. It's the craftsmanship that stinks sometimes.

This amp sounds phenomenal when properly assembled.

C'mon Fender!

It's this contrast that differentiates the mass-produced consumer junk from what boutique builders create. With the latter, there are no legions of stockholders to placate and no increasingly-greedy echelons of marketing profiteers all demanding a piece of the corporate pie.

Three pages later... Apparently no one actually reads posts. *sigh*
Ain't nothing wrong with the amps, folks. They're designed that way. Have fun.

I actually did have a problem with mine. A ground issue. I've also found that the short plate JJ is the lowest noise v1 in my amp. Better than the stock GT.

Edit:

Current lineup sounds spectacular

V1 EH ay7
V2 TAD 5751 (great tone for $20, eqs nicely)
V3 Wathen Selected at7 (lush long decay)
V4 Wathen Selected 7025 (very even flat response, strong workhorse)
V5 JJ?
V6 NOS Mullard

JJ power tubes

Just leaving this here for someone with the same amp who is tube rolling. This amp is HOT and BRIGHT, I tamed my beast with v1 and v2 as listed above. Two 5751s may be even better. I play in channel 2.

The TADs are better selected than JJs. Same Yugoslavia tube. I'm finding the Groove Tubes are better than the JJs ecc83s, too.

TAD 7025s are great, too. For v1, v2

Regarding the '68 Custom Twin Reverb noise issue(s)

If you want to lower the noise floor hiss, a simple fix is to change V4 tube (4th from the right looking at the back) from the stock 12AX7 to a 12AY7 low gain tube.

They say this will change the characteristic of the amp, as it is meant to be a high gain amp, though going with a lower gain tube on the reverb output, we find that it simply lowers the amount of overall reverb, yet usually you would only have your reverb at 2 or 3; with a 12AY7 you may want to turn your reverb to 3 or 4.

Have fun
