I have tried the 5751's, but all I had were some old ones and they seemed to be a little noisy. I need to order some more nos 5751's, I have heard good things about them and I have a few amps I can use them in..

These are the tubes I might get...
Priced around $300.00

MATCHED QUAD 6L6GC SED BRAND NEW Winged =C= TUBES

Rare nowdays best sounding NOS 6550C tubes made by SED factory in St' Petersburg.
All tubes are brand new from a group bulk box, tested strong, see the pics. OTK61 code.

Do not confuse the Winged =С= tubes made in St. Petersburg with Svetlana tubes made by New Sensor Saratov factory (With "S" logo).

Price is for matched quad (four tubes).

Can be used instead of KT88, 6550, EL34 and other tubes (see datasheet first!)

All tubes are tested on famous russian tube tester L1-3 (L3-3).

The tubes are in Russia (Moscow), Wordwide shipping!

I'm not sure why'd you be interested in 6550's -- they have no place in a Fender Custom Twin amp.

:?

I think that might be a typo in the description..
The title has matched quad 6L6GC SED Winged..
Are those the same as 6550's?

Here is a listing..

Excellent tubes, MB!

I've used them myself.

That is wrong. A 6550 or KT-88 cannot be used in a 6L6GC circuit. Plate voltage and idle bias current demands are much higher in the 6550. Similar to using a 6L6GC in an amp designed for the 6V6GT.

BTW... those are prolly not Made in Petersburg, Svetlana tubes. At least, not like the ones made 1980-2009. The few made prior to the old Svetlana plant finally closing are labeled "SED." After Mike Matthews (New Sensor owner) bought the name "Svetlana" most of the 6L6GC manufactured were consolidated into the Reflektor plant Saratov, Russia.

I believe that Reflektor is using old Svetlana die and machinery to make the new 6L6GC. But reportedly, not to the QC level of the old St Petersburg plant.

Perhaps so but I'd still regard them as superior to the chicom-made junk.

Arjay, Russian output tubes are superior to the Chinese. Just that the new Svetlana are really exact copies of the one made in the 1990s. Sadly.

EH and Tungsol branded Russian made 6L6GC are also very good tubes.

I'm familiar with both of these brands......excellent bottles and value for the money.

Do they make the winged ones at EH. How about the GE ones?

I have the exact same issue with a 68 custom twin reverb I purchased on black Friday. Any official response from Fender on these issues? Should I just return the amp?

I am a little gun shy of their new stuff, pre 1980... I think others on the board have come to the same realization also..

I kept the one I have because I waited too long for the return period. Mine is playable now after the last trip to the service center, new preamp tubes and twirling the reverb tank around.. I take a backup amp with me as a precaution if I use it out in the field...

I still have not switched the power tubes out, but I am planning on it..

If I had to do it all over again, it would not be sitting in my studio now... I chock it up as a learning experience with a pretty good price tag..

I have been watching eBay and the 1970's Silverface Twin Reverbs have been listing for around 700.00 - 900.00 and those appeal to me a lot more than the newer ones.. I have a 1973 Silverface Twin Reverb and it has some damn fine tone and dead silent at idle...

+1

And even during the darkest days of the CBS era, Fender's amps were still pretty reliable.

Same problems here, until tonight.

I inspected my reverb tank. More importantly, I inspected the shielded board it rests on.

The left tank bag screw --you know, the one that is supposed to run through the shielding -- it wasn't.

I ran the screw through the board, and now the reverb behaves as it should.

Hope that helps someone. Easiest of fixes.

Gotta hand it to those QC/QA folks at FMIC.
