Saw a Fender London 185 head at the store today. Had never heard of one before. It was made in USA and was $199.

Anyone familiar with the model?

These amps were made between 83-85 during the Paul Rivera era and where extremely elaborate solid state amps. These were 100 watts and could get really loud. Decent reliability, could get a pretty good heavy metal sound out of em. Clean tones were just ok.

A guitarist I used to play with on occasion had one and he loved it.

Thanks. Was thinking it was a tube amp but didn't look up under the panel.

If it doesn't clean up very good it won't suit me very well.

For $199 it is at least worth taking for a ride. Grab your favorite guitar and give it a try out...you might like it's clean tone. I thought the amp's clean tone was a little sterile sounding but my buddy very rarely used the clean tones, so might have been his settings...and the amp has a ton of them! Nothing lost by giving it a try.

Also he beat that amp and played it loudly at gigs, so the reliability was not bad especially the way he abused it.

+1

Dependable platform with discrete components (no IC's) and generally P2P wiring. No RoHS solder -- a huge "plus". Two bills might be a skosh optimistic......prolly take it home for a yard and a half.

Is a tiny little shop so can't really turn it up much and didn't have much of a selection of cabs to play through. Can't really get a good idea idea of it's sound but with a good pedal might be ok.
