I am going to get a checkup for my twin reverb in the near future. I think I've found an amp tech to do the job..hopefully.
In case he's not as familiar with Fender amps as some of you here on the site, is there anything specific I should have him check out? The amp sounds good but hasn't ever seen a tech I'm thinking. Tubes likely never been changed. I bought is used a couple years ago from a gentleman who used it in church and at home. Not sure how old it is..I'm guessing mid 90's. Serial # AC 076508
I sure wish I lived within driving distance of one of you tech guy's here on the site! Any input on getting a good check up done on this amp appreciated.

Unless there is something specifically wrong with the amp, a usually check of main filter caps and 6L6GC idle bias is prolly ok. You may want to go with new 6L6GCs, as the bias will need to be re-adjusted. The TRRI has a bias and hum pot. So, you don't need a matched quad of output tubes. Two matched pairs of 6L6GCs will work.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Thank you. I spoke with the tech who is about 65 miles from me ( he was recommended to me by a local music store owner ) and he can get to it in about two weeks. Says he is covered up with work currently.
Amp sounds pretty good to me but I just want it checked out and in good health for future use.
I'll ask him specifically to check the things you suggested and maybe re-tube it entirely.

Your amp is likely newer than "mid 90's". The first blackface re-issues were manufactured in Lake Oswego, Oregon at the old Sunn plant and their serials are prefaced by an "LO". Production was moved to Corona, California sometime after 2000 and those amps have the "AC" serials like yours.

As for wholesale tube replacement, why not let your tech make that call? Absent some abnormal symptom(s), they're probably fine. IOW, if it ain't broke don't "fix" it. An idle-bias adjustment is likely all the amp needs as these models are always deliberately biased cold to extend the life of the power tubes.

Thanks for that info Arjay, good to know it's newer than I anticipated. I like the if it ain't broke policy and usually adhere to it in about everything. I'm just thinking a 130 mile round trip drive may be saved in the future by doing it. Actually more like 260 miles..if you count 130 there and back to leave the amp, and then another 130 there and back to pick it up unless he can do it while I wait or bum around town a couple hours. But good advice nonetheless and likely will let the tech make that call.

If the amp still has the factory Jensen C12K's, they will have a code on the rim.
For example, "220-07-15" means the speaker was made the week of April 9, 2007 to April 15, 2007.
"220" is the Jensen manufacture code. "07" represents the year 2007, and "15" indicates that it was made in the 15th week of the year.
You'll have to Google "N"th week of the year, whatever "N" is on your speaker, to get the exact date.
The Jensen website:

Yes, yes, I know, we all hate Italian Jensens, blah blah blah.

Just an update to the checkup. The tech made the idle bias adjustment and tested the main caps. The pots got a light cleaning. He said everything was good...did not need tubes at all. He checked the output and it was 88 watts. I'm all smiles lol.
Thanks again for the input here.
