Hi guys, can anyone shed some light on this sound coming from my amp? Only started happening recently.

Cheers.

Hi jamesyd. I have a HRD and have heard various popping and sizzling noises but nothing like what you're experiencing. Hopefully one of our resident HRD experts will be able to diagnose the issue.

In the meantime I would suggest isolating the amp to determine if it is indeed the source of the problem. I see a cable plugged into the amp then you pan over to the pedal board. Is the amp on standby? Is a guitar plugged in? Listen for the noise when nothing is plugged into the amp and the amp is powered and on "Standby". Then when the amp is "On". Then plug in a guitar and listen again. Then try the pedal board. The idea is to rule things out one at a time as much as possible.

HTH

Cheers!
BM

Sounds like arcing across the power switch or some contact carrying either the 120VAC wall voltage or B+. Could be arcing across the standby switch (if this amp has one). Just a WAG.

You should have the amp checked out by a tech.

It does sound like a high voltage discharge... Can't say I've heard one do that.
The HRDXiii is too new for much to have worn out except tubes. Could be a tube arcing.
Start by disconnecting the input cable and see if it still does it.
Turn the volume down and see if that affects it.
Switch to the drive channel. Does it do it there too?
Pull tubes, one at a time, starting with the preamp tubes furthest from the big power tubes.
Power down, pull a tube. Power up. Check for symptom. Power down. Pull the next tube.
If the symptom goes away, replace that tube. If it comes back with a known good tube...As Beemer says...Call a tech.

Cheers for the replies!

The amp doesn't do it when the cable is unplugged.

I've tried various cables etc and still the same.

I hope it's nothing serious.

Rang a tech earlier so I'll hopefully have it diagnosed and sorted next week.

The amp does this on both channels.

Have you tried with no pedals/effects, just guitar straight into amp?

It's conceivable that it's in the amplifier input jack, but unlikely.
Does it do it when the cable is plugged into the #2 jack.
If it does, your problem is upstream in the pedalboard or guitar.
If it doesn't, its a bad jack I think.

It happens in both inputs.

Also happens when the guitar is plugged in with no pedals. Im thinking its a tube issue.

Should I order a new set?

If nothing is plugged in and the popping stops, it's not the tubes.
If you plug in the guitar and it starts popping, it's the guitar wiring or the guitar picking up interference from an outside source.
Try a different guitar. If popping goes away, it's in the guitar.
If the popping returns, its from outside interference.
Change your location to another house. If the popping goes away, its local interference. Bad house wiring or a bad appliance.
It could be a bad surge supressor in a plug strip.
