Someone told me about these and I thought he was pulling my leg but it seems to be for real. The Limited Edition "80 Proof" Blues Junior with the cabinet made out of used whiskey barrels. I wonder how different whiskey blends affect tone.

I couldn't find anything on the Fender website. Has anyone seen one of these creations?

Cheers!

I would wait for the 100 proof version, it has to be better! If it sells, marketing will be all over it with a whole line...the bass version will be a 200 proof!

I like the looks of it, kind of a vintage look. I wonder if the lack of covering over the wood, and the type of wood itself, will add to the sound in some way. :?:

I don't know much about whiskey barrels but I would be interested to know how the wood from the barrel was milled to make an amp cabinet with dovetail joints.

Is there anything official on this amp from Fender?

Cheers

Perhaps they used only the planks that comprised the top and bottom of the barrel......?

Makes sense, Arjay. Depending on the size I'm thinking it would take at least two barrels per amp? Of course you guys realize that with whiskey barrel wood we have a whole new dimension and perspective to the "tone wood" debate. More so if they start using reclaimed Scotch barrels; blended vs. single malt.

Cheers!

I still haven't seen anything on the Fender site but according to this online source the amp "retails for $1,999 USD" which is about 4-times the list price of a standard Blues Jr. ... Perhaps the amp comes with a case of 18-year old Jameson. 8)

Cheers!

Sounds like BS to me.

The links in the referenced article take you to the Custom Shop website, where there is zero evidence of this BJr. A search of the Fender site turns up zilch too.

It seems that everyone on the "Internets" is talking about the 80 Proof Blues Junior except for Fender. I suppose the mystery could be part of a clever marketing strategy.

Cheers!

You would certainly have to be feeling lucky to consider one.

When you consider the guts of the amp is probably less than $100 to produce that leaves $1900 for the cabinet, speaker and profit.

I don't know how much used barrels are, but even if they were $100 each and it took a man 3 days to convert (I'd sack him if it took that long) you would still be well in pocket.

Well, here it is. Looks interesting, but not $2k worth of interesting. Very cool though.
